Finished Senna versus Prost by Malcom Folley in 2 days - here are some things that sent me xx
- ‘Senna could now scent his prey: Prost’ ummmm literally wtf
- ‘Ayrton never called Prost by his name again. He would refer to Alain only as “him”. Or worse.’ By worse he defo means endearing nicknames such as but not limited to: love, baby, my darling
- ‘Prost could not reconcile himself with the thought of remaining at a team where his teammate no longer communicated with him; and one where, to his mind, he was no longer wanted.’ Legit crying, Alain he always wanted youuuu
- you could see there was an air of satisfaction in Ayrton when he learned Alain was leaving. Senna must have thought: “I’ve not just beaten him, I’ve destroyed him. I have pulled Prost out of the team- the team that was Prost’s team” oh he was satisfied knowing he destroyed him huh 🙂
- “Throughout his simmering conflict with partner Ayrton Senna, Prost had remained the popular choice of the mechanics. But now in at one prank they had demonstrated their contempt for him” *cough cough* partner??
- “I don’t care much about the title because it will always have a bitter taste” he said. But be under no illusions: this was a man who wanted the title of for no other reason than an appreciation of how much it would hurt Senna to lose it.’ 👀
- “Somebody who should not have been there just closed the door and that was that”. Note no name just … somebody.’ Right riiiight
- ‘If Prost thought that by leaving McLaren he would escape the attention of Senna he was very much mistaken.’ Oh baby he was never getting away
- ‘Ayrton did not think about other people- he just thought about me.’ Yep yep totally normal
- ‘In a split second, he revealed himself to the world as a man whose obsession with winning, and crucially his obsession with defeating Prost knew no recognisable boundary.’
- ‘If Ayrtons name came up, he[Alain] would give a knowing smile….. at Bercy in Paris and Ayrton was all the time watching Alain. He couldn’t take his eyes off him.’ I just can’t… was he even trying to hide it??
- Ayrton was calling me from Brazil many times… He was pleading with me to drive again. I was laughing, and told him, “you are really unbelievable!”
- ‘He wanted Prost back to give meaning to his own life and career.’ So his life revolved around Alain being near him… I don’t even know what to say anymore
- ‘I still love formula one I still have the passion but that alone is not enough. I need to feel something different. In a way, yes, I have to fall in love again.’ FALL IN LOVE?!!!
- ‘Senna had heard of this test on the grapevine and that was when he intensified his plea to Prost to return…. Ayrton told me in one of his calls that he was not motivated to race against other drivers.’ BREAKING NEWS: Famed man Senna caught on his knees pleading at the feet of petite Frenchman
- We talked two days before he was to be in Imola. I never heard Ayrton telling me about his concerns for safety like this in my entire career.
- On the telephone he said “let’s meet” aww he scheduled a date 🥰
- ‘He was supposed to drive round and say things about the track through a microphone in his helmet. But Ayrton began by saying “I would like to say welcome to my old friend Alain Prost. Tell him we miss him very much.” It was a nice moment.’ IM DEADDDDD
- I saw Ayrton leave the Williams motorhome but instead of going to the garage he came through the crowd of Renault guests having lunch to come to where I was sitting… A driver usually doesn’t do this so close to the start of a race - especially not Ayrton.
- He wanted me to stay… He asked me what I was doing. The words were not very important; he just wanted to share time with me.’ He 😭 just 😭 wanted 😭 to 😭 spend 😭 time 😭 with 😭 his 😭 husband 😭
- Prost shook hands with Senna, wished him good luck and walked out… He did not know it then - but he had also walked out of his life. So much had been said, and so much had been left unsaid between them. This was not supposed to be how they parted’ oh…. oh
- ‘His voice was soft, softer even than usual.. he looked anguished as he remembered those images from Imola’ please I’m in tears 😭
- ‘Everyone else was eating and drinking and laughing.. I could not eat - I could not talk’ ………….
- “Life is very difficult… Ayrton had everything .. but you can lose everything in a moment…. We must never forget life is short” Too short in the case of Ayrton Senna. But in company with Alain Prost, his legend will never die.’ 💀
