Israeli airstrikes killed 21 members of Al Jazeera journalist Moamen Al-Sharafi’s family. He shared the last message he received from his mother before she was killed.

“I can’t even see their faces for the last time.”

Moamen is trapped in southern Gaza by Israel’s bombardment and cannot return to mourn his family where they were killed, in the Jabalia refugee camp. He had not seen his mother in 45 days.

Israel’s attacks have killed over 50 Palestinian journalists in occupied Gaza since Oct. 7, the deadliest period for journalists on record since the Committee to Protect Journalists began monitoring. Several reporters have lost almost their entire families, including Al Jazeera bureau chief Wael Al Dahdouh, whose wife, son, daughter and grandson were killed by an Israeli strike in October.
