After putting them off for months I finally started my metformin on Monday!

After hearing the horror stories about side effects, I was pleasantly surprised that I’d got through most of the week unaffected apart from more frequent episodes of gas/wind.

Today is day 6 and after a slight headache last night as I was going to sleep (which I just put down to being tired) I’ve woken up with the worst headache I’ve had in my life and severe stomach cramps to the point where it’s hurting me to move and I just feel nauseous.

I don’t know how I’m going to cope in work on this 14h shift and after this I’m really not looking forward to upping my dose over the next two weeks as I can imagine if feeling like this on 1x500mg a day is this bad, the gradual increase up to 3x a day is going to be horrendous.

🌸 Day 7/week 2 🌸

I’ve upped my dose to one of a morning and one of a night now and noticed my sense of smell has heightened, my appetite is none existent, drinking the most simplest of drinks or trying to brush my teeth has become an issue due to the nausea and borking/dry heaving (brushing teeth) and the pain I experienced last week was NOTHING compared to what I’m feeling this week. 😩

About 5 hours after my second tablet I went to the toilet and noticed a slight bit of brown discharge/blood on the tissue.

🌸Day 9; still no appetite or desire for a certain food so still just forcing myself to have something at meal times.

Still in excruciating, unbearable pain around my ovaries and I’ve noticed my boobs are bigger and heavier today.

🌸Day 10;

Woke up in agony. The pain is still really bad. Went the toilet for a wee and after wiping there was small amounts of red/brown blood on the tissue. Wiped 3 times and got the same result. Not enough to class as a period yet though.

Light period...maybe?!

🌸 day 14/week 3;

I’m still bleeding. The bleed is a bit heavier than when it started the other day so it’s safe to say I’m having a light period. The blood is still varying from fresh red to brown blood and the consistency of it has been watery on tissue but appears quite thick and dischargey on the sanitary towel so maybe not a legit period. But there is blood and I have all the period symptoms. Thankfully I’ve been cramp free for 3 days too but I’m starting to get really bad twinges again :(

My appetite is slowly getting back to normal, I’m able to eat small amounts now before getting full and I’m not really experiencing any other side effects at the moment!

Today I done my final dose uppage though, so who knows how 3x500mg a day is going to treat me...

Yesterday I tweeted that “Neither of us are too keen on America for our honey moon anymore so are contemplating cancelling it and going backpacking around Europe and following the gaslight anthem around instead. Those tour dates couldn’t have been released at a better time!”
