MISS CELLOPHANE.

The last movie I went to go see was  Pacific Rim: Uprising  –  I remember seeing the first one and being  so  into it that I got a little too excited going to see this one, and almost ran right past the ticket vendor. But anyway !! Pacific Rim is such a cool movie, it’s got action and adventure and monsters and jaegers..

And the guy who played lead in that movie- John Boyega- was also lead in another one called  Attack the Block,  about some alien dog things.. Not to get too into it, but it came out a few years ago and it’s  such  a good movie.. I’ve watched it probably thirty times, not exaggerating.

This isn’t being put on record, right? Like.. He’s not gonna pop out from behind me with some camera crew saying this’ll go on Worldstar, is he? Because sometimes, Kaien gets a little too happy every time I say something nice about him; but it makes sense, I guess.. he’s a happy guy – and it’s not that often I have anything nice to say about him to his face.

Anyway.. that guy’s got a lot to him, so I don’t know if I can pick any one thing.. but I guess I’ll go with:  his humor?  And yeah, it sounds like a generic answer, but  please  bear with me here.

Kaien is.. he’s probably the funniest person I know, and I can always count on him to say something  dumb  when I’m not feeling A1 and he just? Has that way of making everything feel way  lighter. Our humor matches pretty well; it’s never boring around him and I really appreciate it, too.. I know I can get quiet and awkward real quick, but he never makes me feel bad for it. He always knows how to make me laugh, like.. from the gut, and I just.. 

God.. please let me stop, I’m seriously cringing–

To my younger self, I would say.. definitely learn how to stand up for yourself better. You did so well for yourself until the wrong person came into your life and screwed it all up – but it was never your fault. It’s always hard, realizing that the one person in your life that was supposed to be your best friend is toxic. It’s hard, not wanting to let go of them because- despite the meanness they show you and the terrible ways they put you down when you didn’t deserve it- they were still your friend. 

But a part of growing up is about learning how to shed that toxicity from your life and learning to be your own person. Stand up for yourself and don’t let anyone walk all over you again, because you deserve better than to be treated like you don’t matter. Speak up more, don’t isolate yourself when things get hard. Definitely learn who to depend on, even though you make some good- better- friends later on in life. 

there was only so much jisoo was good at doing: running was definitely a top contender in the handful of hobbies she was even interested in -- feet carrying her at a high speed, the way it made her feel as if she was almost floating- unattached to any earthly worry that kept her so grounded. trapped. there was nothing in the world that could replace that rush jisoo felt whenever she set no destination, allowing her body to move wherever it wanted. that was something jisoo was good at- superb, even -- a skill that took years for her to polish.

it comes as little of a surprise when a person wants to expand their knowledge, to explore places and activities that fall far beyond one’s own experience. whether by thorough and simple research or through hands-on learning, it’s always fun for one to keep an open mind about things you’ve never done or tried to do before.

but for na jisoo, fun was hardly a word to describe her current experience.

bandaged hands were cautious and fingers moved with a light tremble; the redhead’s concentrated gaze was locked on the line as she tried once more to slip it through the hole of the hook. and yes, maybe she should’ve had this done before she even got to the fishing hole and yes, maybe she had little idea on what she was even doing ( shown so evidently by the fresh bandaids stuck to her hands from the amount of times she scratched and poked herself with sharp objects ) and yes, maybe she should’ve asked for a local’s help -- but they were busy people, and jisoo had assumed she could just learn herself.

what a mistake.

there was an agitated huff of air that escaped the girl and she set her fishing rod aside afraid if she looked at it any longer, she’d chuck it into the water ( and then promptly pay for, since it wasn’t even hers ). the hook was dropped back into the tackle box and jisoo looked back into the water, leaning back onto the hands that propped her body while legs came under her in a criss cross. 

stupid rod.. stupid hook.. stupid knots.. she may as well have been conducting brain surgery. maybe fishermen are just masochists, she though, there was no way they’d go through all this because they enjoyed all this work. there was a moment of silence for her, eyes looking back down to the equipment she had around her. jisoo heard fishing was supposed to be therapeutic, but there she was: sitting there in a mess, with absolutely no clue what she was even doing.

“So you’re probably wondering why I’ve called you here today,” spoken in a dramatic tone that could even be considered unnecessary, considering the rather mundane reason she called him over in the first place. the task wasn’t much: jisoo just needed help with her hair ( again ) -- and there was no one else she thought to ask but him. after all, kaien was always thought of as her ‘ go-to ’ whenever she needed something- and whether that sounds like a blessing or a curse, usually depended on the situation. 

hands were folded in her lap as she sat with legs coming up on the cushion of the couch to criss-cross beneath her, facing kaien; with a wide grin stretched from ear to ear and eyes bent into little crescents ( even threw in a few bats of her lashes, anything to press the right buttons in getting him to agree ), jisoo gave a small tilt to her head to point to the boxes of hair dye that were opened and lain haphazardly across the coffee table from when she was reading over the instructions just hours before. she was nothing if not well prepared! and perhaps even.. a little messy..
