anyways these are technically deadlock oc’s but no canon characters appear. i’ve only just made these references too! and if u know deadlock it takes place like 1940’s-ish, but they come from deadlock set in the 2020’s. That’s why Ealré (e-all-ruh) looks so modern. Roseline (pronounced Rosa-lean) would appear as duo hero in the actual game tho. I’m only gonna put like one Deadlock tag tho cuz otherwise i’d feel like i’m lying

uma designs usually have a lot of thought put into them, and i wanted to do justice to all of the people who wanted Sunday to succeed, so here’s a list of things that contributed to my interpretation of SS

Her signature outfit title is “Gift from God” as a reference to Arthur Hancock III’s many interviews abt Sunday. He’s said many many things along the lines of, “I truly believe he was a gift from god,” “if we didn’t have Sunday Silence, Stone Farm wouldn’t exist,” “He saved the farm”

Umamusume backstories often have components from their real life, but not in the same way. Like Oguri’s mom in cingray representing the workers at the farm Oguri was born at to make sure he was healthy and survived. For Sunday, after being in a car crash that killed both her parents, she was taken in by her grandfather. He’s based off Arthur Hancock III, who moves to California, gathers connections for her (like her trainer) and supports her in all aspects. All of this through sickness, acting out, anxiety (both seemingly caused by undiagnosed PTSD in the umaverse) and injury.

Although she spends her formative years in California, she’s fond of country music. She spent her early years in Kentucky, and her grandpa always played country songs on the radio. I really wanted to include this since Hancock actually made a whole album for Sunday Silence. (well, maybe it’s just named after him, but at the very least there’s an entire song for Sunday)

Sunday is slightly superstitious, not to any major extent but small habits that soothe her doubts and anxieties. She often wakes up extremely early (nightmares 😞) and she goes on runs to clear her mind. Sometimes on early Sunday mornings, she likes the silence of a mostly empty church (ayy see what i did) and kneels down to reflect. She took it more seriously as a kid when her mom was around, but it’s more supposed to clear her mind nowadays. This is a reference to the irl horses name, Sunday Silence and his dam, Wishing Well. While i never heard anything abt it being a religious thing, you can make the connection right? Oh and she also throws coins into fountains sometimes, as her mom did the same before all her races in her career.

I like when the fandom uses Manhattan Cafe as a stand-in for SS, but for fan designs, i feel they lean too heavily on Cafe. While they’re described as very similar looking, they’re still 2 different horses, with 2 different backgrounds, careers, personalities, and owners. In the umaverse, it would be the same. BUT! i did want the resemblance to still be noticeable. If SS was an in game character she would still get her own assets, but the silhouettes of their hair and tendency to aurafarm some seriously mysterious vibes would draw comments from others on the coincidences. Now, enough Cafe, onto Sunday!

The white stripes are supposed to resemble bandages, a reference to the jockey silks, but also Sunday’s tragic accidents (one when he was a foal, and one that happened right before the Belmont Stakes where Charlie Whittingham nearly died cuz Sunday got spooked and kicked him in the head. What a champ!!)

Classic uma design trait, mismatched shoe colors for horse sock patterns.

There’s a patch on Sunday’s signature bomber jacket that says, “H-G-W” a reference to Sunday’s 3 owners.

Sunday wears a necklace that looks similar to a water droplet. Her mom wore something similar in her career, tho she was more superstitious than Sunday. This is another Wishing Well reference, as in stories abt wishing wells it’s said that the water is what brings wishes.

Part of me just likes drawing bows, but although Sunday intimidates the other horses, so many people related to him speak so fondly of him. And i guess the bows are supposed to bring more of that innocence out. I mean, he was a horse. And horses are so cute 🥹

although these two are often overlooked due to Sunday’s popularity, they were still his rivals.

these two are long time homies, especially with their close proximity and similar positions

one of the things the unicorn represents is actually masculinity, it’s said to be a volatile animal that can only by the King of Scotland or a fair maiden. (smth like that) the golden chains it wears is out on by the King, and without the chains it represents anarchy.

the original story of the welsh dragon (aka the red dragon/Y Ddraig Goch) is of the red dragon representing the welsh, defeating a white dragon, representing saxon invaders

in the original story, or at least the version i heard, it seems to be implied that if the lindworm were not cursed, he’d be a human princess instead. So 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️!! With his wife, i decided to make her a witch. Mostly because i wanted a classic witch somewhere in the lineup of mythology/fairy tale based characters i have. plus, she’s basically the female version of a classic fairy tale hero, and she is! i want her to aurafarm a bit too and the whole mysterious witch vibes help with that.

and here’s a lil sneak peak for the uma design i’m working on! Sunday Silence is basically my horse oshi rn so i’m going over all his race footage doing all this research… maybe i am a lil strange!
