I miss Linden dearly
I finished Hanna recently, and I just want to say that I love Linden and Mireille to pieces, I love her. I love they put her in a sweater and jeans, I love her tiny figure beside Holder. I love her smile and ponytail, I love the way she run from everything, and yet still do her best to live her life. I love she is sensitive, strong, gentle, and independent. I love her being a protagonist, I love seeing her relaxed or soulless. The way Mireille tilted her head, just a little, then she whispered, begging Holder to take her out. I love everything about her. She is the first I have ever loved as a female role. I want to see her more and more. I wish to see her more and more.
There’s a lot of themes about The Killing, themes about leaving and staying, about finding the bad guys, about waiting to be found, about understanding. They built it up, slowly and tightly, like, the way Linden smiled when she saw Holder put on his old outfits, when he was with Reddick, he miming his style, they both wore coats and suits, but when he was back with Linden, he changed it, then Linden smiled. It means that he got to be himself, it means that Linden win over his current partner, it means that Holder didn’t need to change who he is when he was around Linden.
There’s always a thing about Linden and him, they would fight, they would argue, Holder would say somethings nasty, and he would soften his attitude very quickly. It’s always a bit different about him and Linden. Linden won’t save Holder, they won’t save each other; they won’t touch, they won’t hug or kiss when they’re moaning, they just show up, because they know they need somebody. Holder always use this “somebody” as Linden, he would somehow open his heart for her, and Linden would offer some words that other caring person failed to deliver to him, because Holder wouldn’t let them in. So is Linden, the way she smiled at her young boyfriend, the way she portrayed it, it’s like it’s worse than crying, just sorrow. As if she used her expression to tell a story, about she chose to lock herself up, she chose to be defensive, then she chose to refuse all those kindness. And then, in the finale, she came back. She came back for Holder, to see there’s no bad guy around the city, there’s no ghost or dead, to see there’s more, like looking and cherishing the living ones, those beside you and care for you. She came back for him. And I think they did value each other a bit more than others.
