Well, I suppose it’s in his nature to be that way putting his diet into consideration.

[Their question gives him pause. Drumming his claws along the floor, he gives a contemplative rumble, stretching himself out a bit more. Satisfied with the various pops and cracks he hears all along his spine, he relaxes once more, letting out a sigh, shifting his golden eyes back up towards them.]
I’ve thought about this quite a bit. It is not impossible by any means, that much is certain--I would still be among the mouth-breathers if I had not encountered that beast that night, all those years ago.
Kin such as ourselves have a distinct smell--one that mortals cannot detect, I would imagine. Either they cannot, or they are simply too content to live out their short lives in blissful ignorance. But I can smell them.
Dragons, vampires, merfolk, and even creatures with no name... their scents mix in with that of those humans out there. There are enough out there to make me believe that mortals really are ignorant for not realizing they are not the most populous among those that walk this world.
... though, I must say... some mortals offer adequate pleasures.
