What was he SUPPOSED to do? The chair’d been unoccupied, the ship itself EMPTY. On what world WOULDN’T he slip in and tuck himself behind the control panel? The girl surprises him, but he shakes it off ( like a dog in the rain, it doesn’t do much good ).

          “’COURSE I can fly this thing–”

       “ ---- I didn’t ask if you COULD.             I asked if you SHOULD. You’re             not supposed to be in here. ” 

   NO ONE was, if she understood correctly. Rey shifts on    feet made to hold ground but run when necessary, but the    real warning comes from the way she tightens her hand on    her staff, as though ready to STRIKE if she needs to. But    she makes no move -- not yet. 

rey has always seen herself as more---- THEY. she knows her body has been formed of feminine parts, and understands the feminine ideas that various cultures carry---- she’s been exposed to a multitude of them, with attempts to limit her in accordance to what each culture believes she should do or have done, or be capable of. but in her mind, she is an ‘I’ and a ‘they.’ 

it doesn’t necessarily bother her when someone refers to her as anything otherwise -- she knows people categorize to compartmentalize the universe. she’s aware that she does it herself. but she sometimes FAILS to see how that could potentially be problematic. it’s not something that crosses her mind, when she thinks about being referred to by the wrong pronoun. it doesn’t bother HER, so she doesn’t quite understand that it might bother someone else, at the same time. it’s just a MEANS of compartmentalization used to make sense of the world around them. 

gender has no place for rey, because she doesn’t see it having an effect on what people are capable of, what limits they have -- every individual should have the chance and opportunity to prove what their mind and their body are capable of; the BITS are irrelevant when it comes down to survival. she is neither feminine nor masculine, in her mind, mostly because she’s been exposed to SO MANY ideas of what each of those mean, including concepts encompassing OTHER genders, that everything tends to blur together. the OVERLAPS lead her to hand-waving the whole idea in general. she’s REY, and she cannot be placed into a box.

when it comes to SEX & SEXUALITY, rey’s concepts further lack definition. with little opinion on gender, the idea of having sexual preferences tends to boggle her. she HAS had sex, and knows what it is to have different kinds of sex, with various species. a RELATIONSHIP remains beyond her, as she finds trust rather difficult, but she understands the BONDS that sex can build between two ( or more... ) people. rey has long-learned sex can be a POWERFUL bargaining chip. to her, it has little to do with preference and more to do with making deals and seeking reprieve from the repetitive motions of day to day life on jakku.

“As dismal as some of it may look, everything I have done has always been for a reason. Don’t be so hasty and turn me down because of something you don’t quite understand. 

Think for a second, if you reject this, you’re turning away a chance to finally be someone.”

“ I UNDERSTAND clearly enough, Kylo Ren. You’re a SICK man,    and you don’t even realize. You were promised POWER, promised    the chance to finish what had started long before you were born -----    and you’re so BACKWARDS you don’t even understand that all you    were given was M A D N E S S.

what childhood? 

             since the day she was left on jakku, rey has had to fight to survive. unkar plutt had no QUALMS against making a child work for her meals -- those were the rules of the wasteland. when she was five, she ran errands for him, little form making deliveries quick, providing a chance to spike PITY in certain souls -- humans paid MORE when they saw a child doing the work, thinking they might be doing her some measure of good. 

         six. seven. eight. when she grew tall ENOUGH, he started having her clean pieces, retrieving and organizing scraps. she learned to build. that was the BEST she got out of her time as a laborer, before she found her own space, before she stepped back from living in NIIMA OUTPOST and found a solo life in the sands. she learned to build almost ANYTHING, learned the pieces and parts to make every
