I hate it when people use women to put down other women.
I've seen this comparison on Tiktok between Ottoman women (Hurrem Sultan, Nurbanu Sultan, Kosem Sultan, etc) and European women of the same time (Anne Boleyn, Katherine Howard, Jane Grey), saying that while european women were executed, ottoman women ruled.
Which is not exactly true...
There are so many powerful women from all around the world: Cleopatra, Livia Drusilla, Hatshepsut, Boudica, Catherine the Great, Catherine de' Medici, Elizabeth the First, Isabella de Castile, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Empress Theodora, Queen Zenobia, and so many others. And, yes, we can't say that certain Ottoman women didn't have power, Kosem ruled as regent, Nurbanu was extremely influential as Valide Sultan (mother of the Sultan), and Hurrem was the first women to marry a sultan and the one who started the Sultanate of Women.
At the end of the day, all these women lived in times in which men didn't want them to have power. It's not right to use some of them to put down the rest. They all struggled with the same thing: the fact that men thought themselves better than them and considered that they were incapable of doing everything they [men] did.
big fan of when you peel back all layers of a character and at the bottom of it there's love
why are they doing this? because they loved someone so much it caused the plot to happen. Grief counts btw
ESPECIALLY a big fan of when this isn't enough to make them a good person
no matter how bad I feel, I'm comforted by the thought that it could always be worse. for example Henry VIII could be in love with me

I really wish that the creators had allowed a proper after birth scene of Farya and her Twins. Lots of other female characters got scenes including minor ones like Fatma. Also I doubt I'll ever get over the use of the awful "baby" doll Ayşe had.
As a avid watcher of Historical Dramas I have found only a few things I like about this show:
1. Lady Jane Grey
2. Mary
3. Edward
4. Robert Dudley and his relationship dynamic with Elizabeth.
I tried to understand Katherine Parrs character but everytime she can on screen I thought of the other Tudor role the actress has played.
Wolfhall Jane & now Katherine Parr
Final note: Why romanticize Thomas & Elizabeth's relationship so much. I am of the opinion that historically it was an abusive environment and he was grooming her. It's hard logging into tumblr because I'm worried I'll come across a Thomas Seymour x Elizabeth ship tag.
Further note: I am happy to see something of little Mary Seymour in epiosode 4. She is hardly ever mentioned in Tudor shows & books.

Sometimes being a fan of Magnificent Century is about loving a character who only has about 10 minutes of screentime in 1 episode out of all 139.
Kathryn Howard
Sweet baby girl.
I wish you’d received human touch in a non sexual way. Sure times were different back then. But you were a child, just a CHILD.
People dispute when you were first approached by Henry Manox, whether you were 11 or 13. I reckon it was 11 and maybe that Is why I relate to your character so much. You are also my favourite Queen. Now I’ve looked far and wide for a book or source that supports my views about your life. And the only one that speaks out is: ‘All you wanna do’ from SIX.
I want to say so much more but don’t have the words. What I will add is that the labels people put on you are awful. I feel that the trauma from Manox lead to an unfortunate obsession with sex. Might sound hard to believe but it can happen. I KNOW. He did that to you, Kitty. Did you hear me? IT WASN’T YOUR FAULT.
So anyway that’s my two cents. People may read this text and judge, I don’t really care. Have a peaceful rest and who knows I might visit one day. As the modern hashtag goes #Metoo.

And now I'm reminded that they used limestone to bury her. This dissolved her bones quicker and now no one can tell how old she really was.
