Welcome to my Blog
Hey, everyone!
I'm Yro, a writer in my 20s from Greece. Writing has been a great part of my life since my preteen years. My writing became a consistent and constant activity in my teen years when I started publishing my stories online for people to read and it was then I realised how much writing means to me; it's my way of making sense of my thoughts and feelings and expressing them in a coherent manner.
Two things I like to explore in my works are the darker side of humanity and the identity of the artist. I don't believe in literature that is didactic and/or sugarcoats or demonises what humanity is like. My prefered genre to write in is literary fiction and my stories are mostly character-driven.
I have a BA in Philosophy and am currently studying English Language and Literature, both of which feed my writing. As a reader, I enjoy classics (especially modern classics), literary fiction, gothic lit and philosophy, experimental, post-modern structures, fragmented narratives, surrealism and poetic language. Some of my favourite books are Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong, Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin, Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke, The Vegetarian by Han Kang and Orlando by Virginia Woolf.
I chose to write in English in hopes of reaching a broader audience. Challenging though it may be, I find seeing the influence of my first language seep into my writing and what my point of view as a non-native English user offers to my writing really interesting.
I've been on Tumblr for many years but I'm as socially awkward online as I am in real life so I never tried to become part of a community or make friends. That being said, I would love to get to know you and discuss about literature and writing with you! I plan on using this blog to talk about my writing, the books I'm reading and share knowledge and interesting facts I learn through my research for my projects.
Currently, you can find essays, diary-like entries and excerpts from my writing on my substack newsletter (completely free!).

Thank you for reading! <3
