LAZY MOM (the collective moniker for artists Josie Keefe and Phyllis Ma) does not concern herself with food’s edibility. She is a bored housewife whose only creative outlet is obsessively stacking, arranging, and fabricating nonsensical “meals.” A salad is meticulously constructed as a gelatin-mold birthday cake. Sandwiches are separated by component and laid out in plastic bags—the resulting grid would look more at home in a laboratory than a paper bag. It might not be the tastiest lunch, but it sure is the prettiest.
