“have you? because we’re no where closer to being back where we should be. and at this point, a party sounds perfect to actually get everyone in the same room. that hasn’t happened in a long time, nemesis. i don’t need anyone else. how is showing up to a party with everyone else working against everybody? you could’ve refused to come, talked people into believing it was a trap. yet we’re all here.”

“Yeah...sure. Everybody in the same room...that sounds like exactly the type of disaster that I’m going to be watching out for. Who knows what sort of ramifications that will have on people. I know you don’t, and you never will have anybody else either. We’re all here because curiosity. That’s why I’m here, and to make sure things don’t go off the rails entirely. Who’s the say what’s going to happen.”

“maybe you haven’t looked hard enough because there’s plenty to show for it. when was the last time you got everyone into the same room? hmm? last i checked you hadn’t.”

“Oh really? That’s what you think? I’m surprised nothing worse has happened. There are people here that don’t even know what’s going on. You’re going to send them into shock. There’s no way you didn’t think about that beforehand.” Nemesis grew so angry, she felt her hands ball up into fists, before letting him have it, aiming a punch at his face while throwing back, “I’m so sick of you!”

“trust me, i know. but what can i say to the king of the gods besides, good for you! and be on my way,” she sighed, shaking her head. “i think they’re making the trouble, who else would throw this party for themselves and only invite the other gods?”

“I...I don’t know. At this point...they’re going to be idiots and we all know it to be true.” She couldn’t help but feel unamused at their antics at this point. “Nobody would be that stupid, except them. It just feels wrong, especially for those who don’t even remember.”

“i’m not sure why i was even invited to be honest. i don’t know the hosts all that well, if that all.” egon sighed as he looked the other over. it did seem rather unfortunate to her that she knew the hosts. “you really think they threw all of this? to celebrate themselves?” he asked honestly. “that… that seems like a waste of time and money.”

“Maybe you just caught a lucky break.” Nemesis knew why, but it was odd that the hosts didn’t even think that part through. Perhaps it was something she couldn’t believe herself, though she tried. “If I know any of them...which I do...they’re not exactly the brightest bulbs, and together...there’s always bound to be some sort of waste.” She sighed before letting some steam out. “I’m gonna go see if any of them are even sober enough to handle a conversation. I’ll see you on the dance floor maybe?”

his eyes rolled as soon as he heard the voice, waving the other off that he was dancing with before turning towards nemesis. “was it so hard to figure out by the invitations? you know i couldn’t let hermes or zeus have all the fun.”

“No, of course you couldn’t. And here I thought you were better than them, better than to have to go through all this shit just to get everybody back under the same rood. And yet...Nothing to show for it either.” She huffed as she stood staring up at Poseidon, narrowed glare as she shook her head.

“to keep balance? you’re the first to jump down anyone’s throat when they don’t do exactly what you want. if anything, you cause more chaos than we really need. and that’s the thing, nemesis. i’ve never needed to be a god to prove myself. all these people thinking they’re the shit, and what do they really have to show for it? nothing, when i have everything. you’re never down to have fun, i’m not surprised you’re only following the crowd.”

“Because what I was is what’s kept us relevant for years, and frankly, it took this long for anything to get fucked up, so I’d say I’ve done a pretty damn good job. You’ve never had anything but yourself Narcissus, that’s got to be the saddest thing of all. I’m not following the crowd either. I’m doing everything against everybody’s better judgement because no one trusts me.”

“with two of the golden trio and hermes hosting? there’s not doubt that there is trouble lurking somewhere. zeus already told me she put her wife on one side and her lover on the other. if they didn’t remember, i feel like we would be getting total nuclear lock down,” she chuckled, shaking her head. “maybe it’s for the better.”

“There is...so much wrong with what you just said. Both of them on each side of her?” She couldn’t help but roll her eyes, knowing just how chaotic that really probably would be. “I don’t know if it could be. It just seems like asking for trouble at this point.”

“me? important? i don’t think anyone has had that thought about me since the day i was born,” he said mostly to himself as he looked around the room again. “so you know the hosts well? do you know why they’re throwing the party in the first place? you seem to be more well versed with the faces around here than i am.”

“Oh, I know that can’t be true. You seem...rather hard on yourself for someone who still came to the party.” Maybe she wasn’t entirely pleased that the party was happening in the first place either, but she was trying. “I know them...unfortunately.” She mumbled the last part with a short sigh. “I think they threw it truly to celebrate themselves. That’s the only reason I’ve come up with so far.” And maybe getting insight from anybody like Phobos who didn’t remember was her best bet at finding out more on why the hosts wanted everybody at the same place.

“Come here you asshole. You were one of the people behind all of this?” Nemesis spotted the other from across the dance floor, anger blazing through her eyes.

persephone chuckled as her eyes landed on nemesis, one of the few people she knew still had her memories. “you would think but as far as i remember, hera doesn’t remember. would zara put herself in that position as one of the hosts? i guess we’ll find out.” she shrugged. “maybe. or maybe not. it could be a good thing.”

“I don’t know, but...it seems like there’s trouble lingering right around the corner for just about everybody. I almost believe that she has to be.” Nemesis gave a short breath as she thought further about things. “I don’t know. I don’t think anybody really knows what’s going on, even those of us who know who we all are.”

egon turned to the woman, nodding his head slowly. at least he wasn’t alone in this. “truly i don’t.. i don’t understand why i was invited. i don’t even know the hosts or.. how they know me. i recognize a few faces from around town but.. why invite someone like me to a ball?” a small laugh left his lips. “i think they missed over the top and went straight for insane.”

“Maybe they thought you were an important figure. Or maybe...” She trailed off, a short shrug rolling off of her shoulders as she tried to help him make sense of what was going on. “Insanity does seem like something the hosts would be known for. And maybe it was random, though, I don’t know how they got everybody here all in one place either.” Granted, having the messenger god probably helped.

“what world are you living in nemesis? i have not once ruined anything. out of the two of us, your track record isn’t looking so clean. whether i make it in or not people are going to notice me. can’t you see them looking at me already? being so far into the realism makes you a downer. anyone having fun around you automatically gets criticized, so why are you here then if you’re not willing to have any fun?” 

“Okay, that’s a lie and you fucking know it. My track record is a whole lot better than most gods, and I’m not here to win every time, I’m here to keep balance. There is a difference. And sure...you say that now. When you’re in a room full of actual gods and goddesses, what are you then? Because you’re looking a whole lot like nothing. I’m not here for fun, I’m here because everybody else is, and I want to see who is behind all of this.”

“nice to meet you, neme.” they furrowed their brows slightly at her question, considering it. “some people seem familiar, but i don’t … know them, no.” actually, she seemed familiar, but they didn’t have any idea why. they shook their head, taking a sip of their drink. “it’s a little confusing. maybe the hosts just needed more people to fill all the slots.”

“Interesting.” Neme was absolutely infuriated with the three who were hosting, the fact that they weren’t taking anything in consideration left her speechless, and she was wondering when she’d get a chance to talk with any of them. Still, seeing Aether in this state made her heart melt. “You might be right. Maybe we all just got lucky to be invited I guess, like lucky winners or something.”

angel gave a friendly smile to the woman that came up to him, one hand tucked into his pocket & the other holding a glass of champagne. “i … don’t actually know anyone here, so i should probably start making friends, right ? hi, i’m angel.”

“Angel...” That was what the other was going with. Nemesis let out a breath, before adding with a short smile, “I’m Neme. You don’t know anybody here? Not even any recognition of anybody?” It was curious to see so many who didn’t have their memories as far as she was concerned and knew about, but for the other to flat out state it, her lips thinned. “Do you have any reason to believe why you were invited?”

“Ruin? No, no. I make everything better, the life of the party! On time is late, or so these humans like to remind me. They wanted us all here by a certain time, the least they can do is open the gates for us to actually go inside. And I guess you’re right. Why would anyone want to keep you in the loop when you’re a downer a majority of the time?”

“What an odd way to say you ruin things Narcissus. On time is on time, you read far too into everything I’ve noticed. We’ll get inside before you know it. What, are you scared that nobody is going to notice you tonight if you don’t make it in. Are you going to turn back into a pumpkin at a certain time? I’m not a downer, I’m realistic. There is a difference.”

“The least they could do is open up on time. What do you think this is all about? It’s not a coincidence that we’re all here.”

“You really do find a way to ruin everything, don’t you? I think you might want to check again, because it’s not time yet. Though—you’re probably running on your own time? That would be the only logical explanation. Of course it’s not a coincidence that we’re all here, but I’m not hosting, so I don’t have a fucking clue as to why. It’s not like anybody would keep me in the loop.”

“at least my mother isn’t here to sit next to me,” seph sighed as she placed her name card back on the table. “knowing zara though, i bet she’s at the head of the table.. but did she put hera next to herself.” the goddess looked around before sneaking around the tables, trying to notice who was sat next to one another.

“That would have been...interesting.” Nemesis offered the queen of the underworld a momentary glance away out of courtesy before adding back, “I can’t imagine either of them would be anywhere else besides next to each other.” The off-sided comments weren’t anything but said in passing, but Nemesis still felt the whole thing to be a ploy. “All of us in the same room again ought to be a disaster, right?”
