time to get this blog a movin’

now that exams have passed, i’m gonna be moving to a brand spankin’ new blog. same lovable comic-based bucky, but all new tags, theme, and rules.

He’s not…Actually very good at this.  He’s not.  He’s good at being affectionate (though he’s been called clingy at times and distantly cold at others and he’s not sure what that exactly means but it is what it is).  He’s good at being the guy that fixes things.  At building things.  At being a (surprisingly) quiet presence and sympathetic ear when it’s needed.  He’s good at over-the-top, grandiose gestures.  At things that have a lot of flash and bang but lack a lot of soul, when it comes down to it, and that’s…That’s not what he wants.  Here.  It’s out of place - this is literally the middle of small town Indiana, which is a place he can very firmly say he’s never seen himself ending up in for any amount of time outside of maybe a mission with the team - it’s cheap.  It’s tasteless.  It’s - and he shudders at the thought - new money.  Tacky.  He’s never given it a lot of thought before but…Honestly, isn’t Bucky too good for new money gaudy?  He thinks so.  

New York, and what comes with it - the tailored, bespoke suits, the plastic smiles for the press, the endless barrage of press attention (both positive and negative) - stays there, outside of the shared connections and the occasional Avengers call out.  Things are…Well, there’s no point in gilding that lily, things are slower here.  In the beginning he’d thought it would drive him crazy.  That that slowness would frustrate him.  But he’s by far more productive here in a weekend than he is in a week in a fully stocked lab when no one can come and pester him other than Bucky and the cat, and the occasional very few drop ins that actually know about this place.  A bonus of having an ex-assassin spy type for a boyfriend, maybe.  And besides, it’s not like there aren’t things to do, there are.  Not the sort of things the world expects to find Tony Stark, no, no tech conferences and no high-roller types of places but…There’s an honest to God drive-in, for Christ’s sake, and the novelty of that in and of itself is enough to keep him entertained.

Anyway, the point of this is:  He’s not good at this - this relationship thing.  He’s never sure what’s not enough and what might be too much, and he’s never found that happy balance between the two that most people seem to slot into with some kind of ease.  He either finds himself completely uninterested or settling in for the long haul entirely too soon and…And this has definitely maybe been the second thing and he knows that but it’s worked out so far so maybe that isn’t the worst thing in the world.  Bucky,,,Doesn’t seem to mind, and really, that should be the only thing that matters, right?

He tells himself that he’s earned this quiet life. This house, this neighborhood, coming back to his hometown. He’s worked hard, made his amends, paid for his sins. So he’s earned his quiet life in the middle of Indiana. It’s what he tells himself, because some days he doesn’t really feel it or believe it. Doesn’t feel like he should have anything like this, that any good thing in his life is stolen, that he’s being rewarded for the murder and strife he’s caused. Days like that have him jittery and anxious, cleaning everything from the crown molding to field-stripping his entire weapons cache.

It’s almost one of those days. Almost, because it’s hard to have those thoughts or feel those feelings when there’s someone like Tony around to keep Bucky on his toes. He likes to think he’s good at getting a read on people, and Tony’s no exception. And there’s always something to read there--some sort of subtext, some twist of his features, change of voice, shift in stance. Tony’s a whole lot of movement, all action, and it’s a comforting distraction. It’s one of the things he likes about being around Tony--he’s a whirlwind of thoughts, always busy, always with something to ponder or work on. He doesn’t even know he’s doing it--distracting Bucky from his mood drop--because he does it without even trying. It’s just what spending time with Tony is like.

Today, for instance, is all about reorganizing and storing a few odds and ends of Tony’s at Bucky’s house. It’d almost be a statement of affection or progression of their relationship if half of the things now in his garage weren’t mechanical in nature. Mostly spare or duplicate tools that would make working on his suit easier, a few laptops for those software bugs, and what he’s sure is something to do with Friday, though he hasn’t gotten around to asking questions about the particulars yet. It’s all some from storage facility, and again, on a better day, he’d be full of questions. Right now, he’s embracing the organizational monster inside him and working on finding a home for everything new.

Things hadn’t been pleasant, lately. Returning from the dead to a completely different world, without so many people she had held dear in it, took a toll on Wanda and one thing led to another. It had taken her some time to understand that her ‘fantasies’ were in truth altered alternative realities she had created, in which life was better for her, happier. Naturally, that wasn’t going to happen without issues, however. Altering timelines and realities came at a price and Wanda was beginning to understand that her perfect little world was starting to unravel, because she had unintentionally created a masterpiece of a disaster.

Looking up at the familiar voice, she turned around to face the man who had addressed her. “You’re not my Bucky”, she stated bluntly, face falling slightly. “Oh no. I messed up your world, too…” Wherever he had come from, she had no idea how he got here and how to get him back. This was all - uncharted territory for her.

Alright then--mystery solved. Cut the check, time for milk and cookies, he was ready to retire for the evening. Honestly though--his eyebrows rose quickly in surprise, because as far as he’d seen in this universe, there wasn’t much knowledge of the multiverse. Hell, he hadn’t even been able to find anything published by Reed Richards, the overall expert of the multiverse where he’d come from. But Wanda seemed to already know who he was and potentially why he was here. Which... well, he’d be lying if he said it didn’t take a bit of fun out of it all. But hey, at least he didn’t have to figure out how to explain the multiverse.
