I asked my best friend when I would know I was in love with someone and she said, "when all of your writing suddenly becomes about them." But I never wrote about you.

I thought I was walking on safe ground, but it turned out I was walking on a lake frozen by winter and you were as warm as the summer sun.

Your fingers were shaking as you wrapped them around my tiny blue lighter. I could feel the piercing gaze of your eyes on mine as the smell of cannabis seeped through my lips.

Today my teacher told me that people who are in your life for a brief moment are almost always the ones who impact you the most. So I began to wonder what the significance of our brief moment together was and I came to the conclusion that it was to teach me about the type of boy my mother always warned me about. It was to teach me that my mind, body, and soul deserve more than what you gave me. It was to teach me that everyone is capable of having feelings for someone who doesn’t deserve them.

Maybe if I allowed you to read the poems I wrote about you, you would have fallen in love with me.

I bet he still plays the cd I made him, while you're sitting in the passenger seat of his truck. And I bet he still thinks about the color of my eyes when he pours his morning coffee. And I bet he still thinks about me when he's kissing you.

I can't seem to write about you because all of the words I write down, no matter what order, won't do you justice. Even if I used the smoothest most beautiful words I can think of, they still won't compare to you.

In the drawer next to my bed there is a grave yard full of songs I wrote about you.

Always surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you and don’t settle for anything less. You don’t have to be friends with someone just because you’ve been friends with them for awhile. You are not obligated to have people you don’t want, in your life.
