I remember my mom telling me that we have to go to Tony’s concert. He’s in some like, rock and blues cover band called Group Therapy and the OCD Horns. One of his best friends who lived down the street my whole life asked him to join it. They’re a cool bunch, my neighbours. Their youngest son was my first real crush and easily enough he is the same age as my brother, Chris, causing him to go to the same elementary school as me. I mean, he graduated when I was 8 and I haven’t seen him since but, oh Lord. He was a beautiful man. Even though he picked on me and Chris hated him. Anyway, I went to the concert because well, I was 18 and it was a 19+ event so, I could drink and no one could stop me because they just assumed I could. So, there I was just sipping away at a Canadian, listening to the band cover ‘25 to 6 or 4′ by Chicago when all of a sudden from behind me I hear: “Hey, can you even drink that?” I turned around and oh my God. It was him. I couldn’t breathe. His eyes are so big and...blue. He looked the exact same since I last saw him but, better. Granted, the last time I saw him it was 10 years ago and he was 13 and I was 8... Okay so, I realized that for my first interaction with him in 10 years had to be good. Not just good but, smooth. Thank God I made myself look like a babe for that night (I know, stepfather’s concert but, it was at a bar, boys go to bars, I like boys). If the first line isn’t good then I’ll just be that dumb 18 year old girl with her mouth draping open because a boy came up to her, I’m a Comedian in Toronto, I can think of one fucking line. If you wanted to know, I replied with: “No but, it’s an open bar. Who’s going to stop me?” He laughed. I was in. This was it. He complimented my dying of my hair red. This is amazing. Wait, did he flirt with me? Wait, did I flirt back? Are we in love now? Are we going to get married? Everything is finally coming up Brittany. And then he said: “I can’t believe you are Chris’ little sister.”
