So apparently it's been like, a whole year since i posted here? Wild.
I wrote this one back in January - a character study for my D&D OC Dee, centering around her relationship with her mentor of 60+ years and leading up to the campaign she's being played in. Dee is a 76-year-old human monk with ADHD and dyslexia, and i really enjoyed exploring her relationship with learning and literature as a neurospicy older person!
Goldbane is whistling.
Dee bites her lip as she passes row on row of books, a grin blooming across her features at the sound. Goldbane usually mutters quietly to himself while he works; he only whistles or hums when he’s in a particularly good mood.
Today is a book day. Not just a work day, but a day for reading and discussion.

Hello all! Some of you may have seen the update on ao3 but also posting here. As part of my building a Patreon, I am going to be offering some already-written work as a free taster of my writing. This is to give people who have never read me before a chance to see what I'm about.
Two of my AUs (Affections & Adorations - Austen AU, The Lamp & The Veil - Bletchley AU) are going to have the character names changed and then be moved to Patreon. This is being done with the blessing of those who they were gifted to and both stories will still be available to read and download for free. The body of the text on ao3 will be replaced with a link to the new location but the comments, kudos, bookmarks etc. will remain live rather than the whole work being deleted. The move will take place on 5th August at 11:00 PDT (UTC-7).

Not long after stumbling into the semi-darkness of the tunnel, Yennefer found herself standing face to face with a solid stone wall, staring at it in bewilderment.
She was quite certain the tunnel had never closed behind her while she was in it before, but there was no denying that this was the case now. She pressed a hand against the cold stone, but of course it was utterly unyielding. She willed it to move. It did not. Remembering Tissaia’s assertions that a spark of Hades’ magic still lived inside of her, she tried to call upon that spark, pressing both hands against the rough surface and commanding, “Open!” in her best Zeus impression. Not the Zeus she knew, mind, but the Zeus of myth. Still, nothing happened.
Hey! So it's been a minute since I've given you an update on my new florist friends, and I think I may have accidentally gotten adopted by them?
I started stopping by kinda regularly to chat and get a flower or two, and they were always so nice. So I brought baked goods with me a couple of times, which led to them trying to give me flower arrangement classes. And somehow, that has evolved into me hanging out in the reading nook at the back of their shop regularly and coming to family dinner weekly?
(Also I've now officially met all the cats, and all of them are, indeed, named after lord of the rings! Bilbo is the only one social and chill enough to be allowed in the shop regularly, but Eowyn is my sweet little bestie! I get to watch the cats for them in a couple weeks when they go on vacation, which I'm super excited about!!)
Oh to be adopted by lesbian florists...
THANK YOU for this update!! i am delighted to know about the cats! My first three cars were named Eomer, Gwaihir, and Gandalf, so this was very important to me.

Help, I went back to the florist to get some flowers for me, as a treat, and they had one of their cats down in the shop
His name was bilbo, and the tag on his collar said 'employee of the month'

Because if not you will simply have to return until you have met them all. But I hope you return anyway because this sounds like the exact kind of shop we all need in our lives
My friend has a couple pets that like to get into everything, so I asked if the very nice florist could make a bouquet that was pet-safe because I am uneducated in the ways of flowers and just know lilies = dangerous for cats
And this gift of a woman just goes, "I'll take care of you right, darling" (which, mind you, had me absolutely reeling) and then disappears into the cooler to grab a bunch of flowers
This is actually how I found out about her wife, because she started calling to her in the back of the shop, asking which of the hibiscuses were pet safe. The wife also appeared at that point to help and to inform me that they've got several cats in their home above the shop, and so keep an extensive amount of pet-safe flowers on hand
All that to say, idk all the flowers that went into it, but I recognized the sunflowers, daisies, and some pretty maroon orchids (which were my favorite)

While the woman who helped me with the flowers was incredibly attractive and kind (she discounted the bouquet for me because she thought it was cute that wanted to bring my friend flowers), it turns put she is happily married to her wife, the other co-owner of the shop.
So at least there are flower gays, even if I'm not involved lol

Hi! I think you'll get a kick out of this as much as I did! One of my friends just recently graduated from a master's program, and I managed last-minute to get off work in time to attend the ceremony. So of course, I was running late and had no gift because I didn't think I'd be able to go at first... ended up going to a locally sourced flower shop that I happened across on the way to the university
All I could think of was 'Still Your Hands' and whether I was about to find my Tissaia!!!
I am assuming if the answer were yes you would have said so... but I feel i must ask...

hello! ive been keeping up with your writing for a while and i was just curious, do you have any plans to continue stone in your water? no pressure ofc, just wondering :)
If it takes another 6 years it will be completed, yes.
The more complicated and slightly more serious answer (although i am very serious about finishing the fic) is that as we wind closer to the end, i find it more taxing to make sure all the pieces are in place to bring the story to a close without leaving any ends hanging. There are also a lot of emotions going on that need careful consideration given certain recent events - so along with navigating their new bond and sorting out how to address some other issues - as well as the just bringing it to a satisfying close in general (i know what's going to happen ultimately, but weaving the story around it is blah), things have just been going a bit slowly.
plus tbh i though writing in past tense for the Hades & Persephone au would be a good exercise and now i keep giving myself psychic damage every time i try to write in present tense again.
anyway here's a (very long) segment from the next chapter, where i explain Rita taking over as Headmistress and Tissaia and Vilgefortz seizing control of the Chapter
Yennefer is not the only guest at the meeting, of course. Rita's warm presence alone is enough to tell Yennefer that her ponderous thoughts this morning were accurate: Tissaia is stepping down as Rectoress.
"You seem weary, Tissaia. Have you come to vacate your Chapter seat as well?" Artorius drawls when the announcement has been made, voice dripping with feigned boredom.
"Yes, the running of your little school is hardly reason to call another meeting so soon—particularly after you were so quick to depart the last one," Stregobor complains. "Why have you gathered us here?"
A flare of annoyance from Tissaia shoots across their bond, and Yennefer furrows her brows slightly. She wants to bite back—she’ll only be able to take so many of Stregobor’s disingenuous comments—but she holds her tongue and focuses instead on reassessing the barriers around Tissaia's mind.
All seems well.
"Quite the contrary, Artorius," Tissaia is saying, ignoring Stregobor’s interruption for now. “For too long I have been torn between the duties of two different stations. Henceforth I intend to dedicate my full attention to the oversight of the Brotherhood. I think we can all agree that these are trying times indeed, gentlemen; the Brotherhood needs guidance.”
A breath of silence—and then, from nowhere, someone laughs.
Vilgefortz, Yennefer realises when he clears his throat to speak. "Well said, Tissaia; after all, it was the efforts of our mages which kept the Nilfgaardian horde from crossing the Yaruga. Might I be so bold as to suggest that the Brotherhood requires not only guidance but… a new direction, even?” he muses. A beat. He makes a thoughtful noise before continuing, “The Archmistress has my support.”

“I knew it was a bad idea to fill Vanielle’s seat with this—this sword-slinging whelp,” Stregobor grumbles. In her mind’s eye, in the disturbance of chaos near his seat, Yennefer sees him wave his arm dismissively.
The absolute gall, saying this in front of the man! Yennefer has little love for Vilgefortz, but she finds herself distracted once again by musings of how Stregobor has maintained his seat in the Brotherhood’s leadership for so long when all he does is provoke the people around him.
Terranova hums quietly in amusement. “In all fairness, they were right. The Blackclads arrive after all—and two days early at that? Had Tissaia and Vilgefortz not rushed to defend Sodden, we’d already be neck-deep in a war we were too complacent to stop.”
“Back to the point, gentlemen,” Tissaia begins in the ensuing silence. “Now is the time for unity, not for infighting.”
Not one to be drawn from his protestations so easily, Stregobor makes a disgusted sound before grumbling, “I still don’t understand why you could not have put this in a letter.”
Tissaia does not quite sigh aloud, but Yennefer is well-familiar with the pinched expression she associates this feeling of irritation with. “Aretuza produces nine out of ten of the mages who serve as advisors on the Brotherhood’s behalf,” Tissaia snaps. “One would hope this Council has significant interest in the future of the school.” She puffs out a breath before continuing in a more casual tone. “Of course, your personal lack of interest hardly surprises me, Stregobor: as much time as you spend peacocking around Thanedd, it’s a wonder your boys even recognise their Rector’s face.”
“<i>Now—</i>”
“Remind me,” Tissaia continues over Stregobor’s interruption, “when was a Ban Aard graduate last chosen for a court assignment?” A moment of tense silence. No answer comes. “Then I trust you have no other protestations regarding the discussion of Aretuza’s future in this hall.”
Growing more irritated (and more unbearable) by the minute, Stregobor makes a sudden noise of frustration. “Margarita Laux-Antille has no interest in politics!”
“That’s the first thing you’ve got right since calling this meeting to order,” Rita interjects blandly, speaking up for the first time.
“Ha! You see—!”
“But, while I have no interest in playing at intrigue as you do, I assure you I am more than capable of staying abreast of the political landscape here in the North and abroad, as is necessary to guide Aretuza and its students. Besides, we have experts for a reason,” she adds in a lightly scoffing tone. “You take for granted that Tissaia has long been part of this Council. I take precisely as much interest in the political sphere as the position of Rectoress necessitates.”
“And it is for that reason that she is here,” Tissaia continues smoothly, cold steel underneath her placid demeanour. “In future, I will act as liaison between the Council and Aretuza. For now, I move that we review the current status of our relations across the Northern Realms. After all, the Headmistress should know precisely where the Council stands—should she not?”

Uhh well first of all I don't write things out of spite or to be hateful? if I don't like something I just don't engage with it.
Second, I met Roche for 5 minutes when I last played TW3 like 3 or 4 years ago, so the chances of him appearing in a story are sub-zero. Sorry.
Third........... do people ACTUALLY write things just to drag them? Who has the time or energy for that? I barely have the emotional or mental capacity to write the things I love, much less waste myself on things I don't

There was a mortal in the House of Hades. Tissaia sensed it long before she fully regained consciousness, and when she opened her eyes after eight mortal days of slumber, she did not need to see Yennefer to know the woman was in the room.
