i wasnt thinking yesterday and wore my extremely heavy backpack on one shoulder and. ow.
Hi Tumblr! Would you eat this sandwich available at my local cafe?
Important info:
A tattie scone is mashed potatoes mixed w flour and fried. It is usually eaten as part of a full breakfast, playing a role akin to the hash brown.
The sandwich is pictured dry but comes with the option of ketchup or brown sauce so if you would eat it w one of those sauces that's a yes.
Would you eat a tattie scone roll?
yeah
no

we need to put a watergun on a satellite that shoots the earth in one spot forever and jt makes a stalagmite that reaches all the way into space and that will push earths center of rotation closer to itss surface so we start swinging around crazy as fuck and start colliding with other planets and fucking everything up just like the most confusing thing possible for any alien observing us to see
I love you minor unnamed characters of les mis. I love you porter who goes "what are you, a cop?" I love you random guy who traded your clothes for eponines because you just wanted to go about dressed like that, I guess. I love you Gavroche's little brothers.
His emo swaglessness has caught me off guard. I'm obsessed with him.
I was listening to the audiobook at work yesterday, and unless I misunderstood the narration, Marius threw himself against a tree and despaired like that for two hours straight. I had to draw it.
Details under the cut
One interesting thing about Les Mis adaptations is that Volume 1 of the novel often takes up the majority of the runtime. [footnote: Volume 1 is all the drama about Jean Valjean being released from prison, meeting the bishop, becoming the mayor, being suspected by Javert, and then revealing his identity to save a man arrested in his place.]
Even when it doesnât, Jean Valjeanâs character arc throughout the rest of the story is often reduced to his arc in the beginning of Volume 1.
There are exceptions, like the musical to some extent. But I think the focus on expanding Volume 1 is related to the common misconception that Les Mis is primarily âa story about whether Bad People Can Change.â In this view, the story ends when Jean Valjean is âredeemedâ from his convict past and âbecomes a good person.â Basically: the story ends when Jean Valjean becomes Madeleine, a kind charitable pillar of the community who puts the lives of other people above his own.
In a couple adaptations (like the 1935/1998 film or the BBC 2018 miniseries) Jean Valjean is depicted as selfish or callous until the very last scenes, when he finally learns to put the happiness of other people like Cosette above his ownâŚ.. something he learned very early on in the novel. These adaptations are attempting to expand âValjean learns to become Madeleineâ to be his entire arc.
But thereâs a reason that is only the start of the novel, and there are like 800 more pages!
Putting aside that Jean Valjean doesnât really start the story as âEvil,ââŚI also think itâs important that Jean Valjeanâs conflict is not purely about âlearning to be kind.â if that were his conflict, the story would end when he becomes Madeleine.
In my view the novel isnât focused on whether âBadâ People can Become âGood.â Itâs more about how living under constant injustice, fear, bigotry, and persecution often traps you in impossible moral choices. What does it mean if youâre continually punished regardless of how you behave? What does it mean to be a âgood personâ in a world where your basic existence is perceived as innately evil? How do you find the âright thing to doâ when you canât trust any higher authorities to tell you, because you know that those authorities are operating on bigotry? How do you continue doing the right thing, even when the âright thingâ will rain down social scorn, ridicule, and violent punishment? How do you stay true to your conscience while under so much massive social pressure?
Thereâs a lot of interesting complexity there that often gets watered down!

Another Rocky detail I've fallen in love with: one of his limbs is different from the rest. As in, it looks like it broke at some point and either grew back incorrectly, is in the very slow process of growing back, or he was born with it that way. Regardless: his frequent clumsy skittering and stumbling isn't just due to his Labrador puppy over-enthusiasm. He has a limp!

To YOU heâs just a 192 year old dead revolutionary medical student who represented the logic of the revolution who lived much more normal than his counterpart, who was more human than man, the homo to vir, who liked the word citizen but preferred the word man and would gladly say hombre, who read everything, did theatres, followed lectures, explained the functions of arteryâs, followed science, deciphered hieroglyphics, broke stones to look inside them, drew silk moths from memory, corrected the dictionary, both asserted and denied nothing, daydreamed, who was involved in issues of education, wanted society to raise intellectual and moral standards, believed that the narrowness of teachings and the scholastic prejudice would turn collages into artificial oyster farms, who was well-read, a purist, precise, polytechnical, hardworking, imaginative, who dreamed of trains and better surgical operations and fixing cameras and electric telegraphs and steering hot air balloons, who was the guide to the leader, who was not incapable of fighting but would rather be gentle, who wanted neither halt nor haste, who would rather let progress take its course rather than worship and incite revolutionary adventures, coolheaded but pure, methodical but irreproachable, phlegmatic but imperturbable, and who believed âgood must be innocentâ
To ME heâs everything
