hi! transfem wlw here the page from Sunu Sumu Muriku No Koibito is out of context. it’s obvious that nono is dealing with internalized transphobia, and that page gets followed by the other romantic lead affirming her gender. she does die at the end, due to like health complications n shit, but… the story isn’t actually all that transphobic, and is constantly *sympathetic* to her struggles. it does constantly have terrible shit happening to it’s trans lead, and uses tons of dated terms, and kinda is just a fairly 5/10 read TBH but i feel like it’s being misrepresented here. im not saying its like. perfect or even good rep btw.
another thing though, the way both the manga and the show present trans experience is different, and imo shows growth. in situations like this, it’s best to keep later works in mind as well, ppls opinions change and it’s been a decade since this manga came out

on the lesbophobia, that was mostly a mistranslation by a translation bot. an actual translation by a person (link) clears it up.
that’s p much it. the show has consistently tackled several issues with nuance, and even then, it’s not like shinji nojima is the only one working on it

Realised I forgot to rb this yesterday but this are the additions that made me realise where i was wrong.
I still think there’s some definite issues with the screenwritter, and how he sees the LGBT community, which is worrying given the fact that there is explicit LGBT themes in the show.
