the song blow, blow, thou winter wind from bbc radio 3′s 2015 as you like it
freeze, freeze, thou bitter sky, that dost not bite so nigh as benefits forgot. though thou the waters warp, thy sting is not so sharp as friend remembered not.

Grasses in the wind.
St. Petersburg, Russia
Roam, bison style, under a gorgeous sky. The magnificent Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma includes 8,570 acres of designated wilderness and beautiful places to roam. Home to approximately 650 American bison, this stunning prairie land also provides habitat for bison, white-tailed deer, elk, Texas longhorn cattle, and more than 240 bird and 50 mammal species. Photographer Debra Gail explains why this photo means something to her, "I am overwhelmed by the emotions I feel when having the opportunity to photograph in this extraordinary place. I love the bison’s symbolism because they are the largest land animal in the United States, and the refuge is on the Great Plains, a land on which I feel most connected.“ Photo courtesy of Debra Gail.

Warmest, or should we say, coldest wishes to you on this International #PolarBearDay. Did you know that the US Geological Survey (USGS) leads long–term research on polar bears to help policy makers regarding conservation of the species and its habitat? Information on the status of polar bear populations is important in order to better manage these top predators. This black-billed magpie took advantage of Wind Cave National Park’s new bison ride-share program.
One of America’s oldest national parks, you can find wildlife roaming, and riding through, the rolling prairie grasslands and forested hillsides.

For many animals, fall is a time for migration. Within the last few weeks at Grand Teton National Park, five bison, one elk, one pronghorn, and additional wildlife were all struck and killed by vehicles in the park.

Each spring, the energetic and playful bison calves or “red dogs” join the herd. Standing out with their bright reddish-orange coats, their bursts of energy are magical moments. They fill the fields with awkward jumps, uncoordinated sprints, and joyful reactions as they learn and grow. Pictured here is a newborn red dog with mom, just minutes old, fighting against a slight breeze in an attempt to hold itself up for the first time.
