A tip for blending when painting digitally: use a transition color! I quickly made this when my brother asked for art advice while I was working on a painting for my best friend. (I was watching a lot of makeup videos to pick out her gifts).

I have a question, I’m still somewhat new to digital art and I wanted to know why people use purple for shading instead of just coloring it? Are there secrets I don’t know!?! thank you! Lov ur art btw
I'm assuming that you're referring to when I filled in a bunch of dark blue at the end of my speedpaint video! Usually once I'm done with rendering (on the left) I'll do adjustments to the colours I put down. Sometimes this is to better blend with the background, or just to enhance the colours. Generally I I add a normal layer of a cool colour (like purple, or green in this case) over the shadows to add extra contrast w/ both value and colour. Then, I'll do the opposite and lighten my highlights with warm toned overlays. I know some people are against using effect layers, but you shouldn't be afraid to edit/adjust your colours after they're "finished"! Use all the tools you have at your disposal to make your art as best it can be.

How do you make your art work look so soft!?
It’s Easy! t’s just Gaussian blur♥ and a little bit of overlay.
1.) First I take my finished background
2.) I duplicate the image
3.) Only on the duplicate of the image do I go and select the Gaussian blur setting
4.) I tweak with the blurred setting finding a nice medium. Not wanting it to be too blurry. my preferred setting is at 16.
5.) After that, I set the opacity to 50 or 60. Mess around to see which setting you prefer this makes the image look very soft♥
Then I repeat this process for the rest of the image!
- place everything else in the image
- Duplicate and blur the duplicated image by 16
- change the blurred image’s opacity to something between 50 or 60
6.) Then for extra detail I added lighting using the overlay setting♥
I made an extra layer on top
7.) I change the layers set to overlay for a good lighting effect. There are 3 sets I find that you can use for a lighting which is Overlay, Color Dodge, and Glow dodge. Each of them can work really well, it just depends on your preference.
Each option sort of does things differently just experiment to see which one you prefer.
8.) Then I picked a very light yellow and used my Soft spray paint option to spray some color on top of the image since the light is coming from above.
Then I went in with minor details like shadows and sparkles♥ nothing crazy
Here’s the finished product! I forgot that instead of yellow I went with white for the light oops! I took the same steps tho!
Here’s what the image would have looked like without the blurred or effect
The Blue helps a lot! It makes my outlines less harsh on the eyes.♥
