“Y/N, wake up!” was the first thing you heard as your eyes fluttered open, immediately met with your coworker’s face.

“h-huh? what happened..” you mumbled, forcing yourself to stand up straight, your hands gripping the counter—until it hit you. you fell asleep during your shift again.

“fuck, did i fall asleep again?” you asked, your eyes wandering around the café until they landed on that one specific boy. you never got his name, but he was one of your regulars—the one who always ordered croissants.

his dark, soft hair fell around his face like it had a mind of its own, slightly messy in a way that made him look unreal without even trying.

your head snapped back, realizing you lost focus. “y/n, are you listening? i told you, our manager’s calling you to his office. he wants to talk about something,” your coworker said, tapping your shoulder.

“y-yep, i was listening! thanks for telling me—and i’m sorry you had to wake me up for the tenth time this week,” you apologized, already making your way to the manager’s office.

you knocked, slowly opening the door as you heard your manager say, “come in.” for some reason, you felt nervous. was i going to get fired? did i mess something up?

“come, sit. although this conversation won’t take long,” your manager added. you nodded, pulling a chair.

“may i ask why you called me here?” you asked, tilting your head as if you weren’t the most nervous person in the room.

“i’ve noticed you’ve been sleeping during your shifts lately, even clocking in late, y/n,” your manager said, looking at you seriously.

“y-yes, i’m aware of my actions, sir… and i’m really sorry for messing up,” you muttered, struggling to keep eye contact.

“i’m glad you’re aware, but i’ll be honest—I don’t think you’re ready for this job. you’ve done well these past days, but sometimes it’s just… i don’t know,” he added, his words echoing in your head.

“i’m really proud of your work, though. i hope you come back once you’ve had more practice,” he finished.

“thank you… and i’m really grateful i got to work here, even if it was just for a few weeks. i hope to see you around,” you replied, standing up and quietly closing the door.

you just got fired.this job didn’t even last a month.

you went to grab your things before heading back to the counter, accidentally bumping into your coworker.

“y/n, what happened?” she asked.

“well, uh… i just got fired. but it’s fine! maybe this job just isn’t for me,” you said, lightly patting her head.

“will i still see you around?” she asked.

“probably. i can’t resist the pastries here—they’re too good,” you said with a small laugh, giving her one last wave before leaving.

“ugh, i can’t choose an outfit!” you groaned, practically having a mini crash out while on call with eunchae.

“girl, calm down. you’re literally just going to a café with your brother,” eunchae replied, snickering from the other side of the screen.

“okay, yeah—but what if i meet some cute guy, you know?” you said, digging through your closet in panic until you finally found a decent blouse.

you quickly changed, pairing it with a denim skirt. “did you finally find something good? let me see!” eunchae said excitedly.

“it’s not even that cute, but it’s all i’ve got right now… all my good clothes are in the laundry,” you sighed, spraying perfume on yourself.

ding dong!

your brother, sion, was already outside.

“eunchae, sion’s here—i’ll call you later!” you said, quickly grabbing your bag.

“okayyy, bye!” she replied before the call ended.

“y/n, hurry uppp!” sion yelled, knocking on the door impatiently.

“just wait—!” you shouted back, rushing to put on your shoes before finally opening the door.

“took you long enough,” sion said, shaking his head as you rolled your eyes. the two of you walked to the café, which luckily wasn’t that far.

a few minutes later, you arrived outside. your eyes scanned the place, and your mood instantly shifted. it was the café you used to work at. your eyebrows furrowed, and sion immediately noticed.

“y/n, what’s wrong? we haven’t even gone inside yet,” he asked, gently patting your head.

“nothing, nothing! uh… let’s just go in, yeah?” you said quickly, forcing a smile while mentally praying none of your old coworkers would recognize you.

the moment you stepped inside, someone immediately wrapped their arms around you.

“y/n, you’re back!!”

you nearly jumped in surprise before realizing who it was. “jiwoo?” you blinked.

“oh my god, where have you been?” jiwoo laughed, pulling away from the hug.

sion raised an eyebrow. “uh… who’s this?”

“oh! i used to work with her,” jiwoo answered with a smile.

sion turned to you, clearly amused. “you never told me you had a job before, little sister?”

“it was literally just a part-time job, don’t make it weird,” you mumbled. “come on, let’s just look at the menu.”

the two of you walked over to the counter while sion scanned the menu. “sooo, what do you recommend?” he asked, nudging your elbow teasingly. “since you apparently used to work here?”

“stop teasing me, bro,” you groaned. “fine. one iced spanish latte and one iced strawberry matcha latte.”

after ordering, the two of you found a seat. since the café was busier than usual, the drinks were taking a while. you looked over at sion.

“i’m gonna use the bathroom. get the drinks if they’re ready!”

he gave you a lazy thumbs up.

after stepping out of the bathroom, your eyes wandered around the café. despite everything, the place still felt familiar.

as you walked back to your table, you noticed sion sitting with a dark-haired guy. he looked oddly familiar. until he turned around. your breath hitched. the croissant guy.

you genuinely thought you’d never see him again after getting fired. he looked just as surprised as you were.

“uh… do you guys know each other?” sion asked, glancing between the two of you.

“oh—yeah!” you said quickly, sitting down. “he used to be a regular customer here.”

you turned to him. “sakuya, right?” you gave him a soft smile. his cheeks turned pink almost instantly.

“y-yeah…” he mumbled, nervously fiddling with his fingers. “you’re… y/n? sion’s sister?”

you nodded, taking a sip of your drink. it had been weeks since you last saw him. nothing had really changed. he was still cute. still shy. still awkward in a weirdly endearing way.

somehow, the three of you ended up talking for hours, jumping from random topics to even more random topics.

before you knew it, it was already 7:34 p.m. eventually, the three of you decided to head home.

“bye, sakuya! see you around,” you said with a small wave before walking in the opposite direction. he stood there for a second, quietly watching you leave.

this was a day neither of you would forget.

you heard your phone ring, and you immediately picked up, already knowing it was woonhak. you set your phone on your desk, ready to study.

“hi, woonhak!” you said, smiling. it was your first call with him, and you were excited. you never thought you’d end up on a study call together.

“h-hi yn!” he replied. it was obvious he was nervous, which made you giggle a little.

you both got into studying pretty quickly, but it didn’t take long to notice he was struggling with the lesson too. the way he tried to explain things only made you more confused.

“kim woonhak, are you sure you understand biology? be honest with me..” you said, resting your chin in your palm as you waited.

“u-uh… okay, i’m not the best at biology. i just wanted to call you so i could see you.” he admitted, covering his face with his hands.

“i’m sorry, yn!” he added, still embarrassed.

you smiled. it honestly made your day knowing woonhak wanted to call you, even if it meant pretending he was good at biology.

“it’s fine, silly. you could’ve just said you wanted to call,” you replied.

“okay, i promise i won’t lie to you anymore,” he said, smiling again.

you both went back to studying, talking here and there but still trying to focus… maybe calling woonhak was the best decision you made today.
