I need to start this review by saying that this was only a partial galley, just 150 pages from the start of an 880 page novel. Or at least, I assume it was the start; itās hard to tell for sure because the chapters arenāt really numbered as youād expect. So, because of that, I canāt really give a complete review because for all I know, the other 730 pages could either get much better or much worse. So for now my rating is a nice middle-of-the-road 3 stars and that will most likely change one way or the other when I get to read the rest.
Merry Bookmas! š

*deep breath*
Where do I begin with this one?
After liking Ignite the Stars, I was really looking forward to reading Eclipse the Skies... Unfortunately it fell even flatter than Ignite the Stars did for me, except this time it was a little harder to ignore the glaring issues with this one. I still didnāt absolutely hate it, but... well, it took me twice as long to finish this one as the first one. Almost a month. That should really tell you all you need to know; if I struggle for a full month to read something, itās not holding my interest.

This may seem like a very strange and negative review for a book that I ended up giving four stars, but hear me out ātil the end. I did generally enjoy the book; I just have a few issues with it, which is why I didnāt give it a full five stars.

Iāve read several of Maria V. Snyderās fantasy books and really enjoy her writing, but I can honestly say⦠she should write more sci-fi!! They say youāre not supposed to judge a book by itās cover but in this case, Iām very glad I did! I didnāt know this series even existed until I stumbled upon the first book in my local store and bought it because I liked the cover. It wasnāt until I got it home that I realised it was by an author Iād read before and really enjoyed and before I was even halfway through I went searching to see if there was a second book because I was enjoying the first one so much that I knew I would want to read the second straight away; I was so excited when I saw it on NetGalley and immediately requested it!

DNF @ 9%
I think Iām in a very small minority who didnāt like this book but I could tell almost immediately this book wasnāt going to be for me. Whilst itās extremely well written, stream-of-consciousness style writing just isnāt something I enjoy.

DNF @ 23%
When I first read the description of this book I was intrigued, it sounded right up my alley! But as soon as I started reading it, it became VERY clear this one wasnāt for me. I should have just stopped after the first two pages but I spent far too much time trying to force myself to finish it instead; trying to care even the slightest bit about any of the characters or how the story ended until I ended up giving up at 23%.
I saw another reviewer describe this book as āGame of Thrones meets Cruel Intentions meets Fantasiaā and thatās exactly what it is. Now, you might be thinking āSurely those things donāt work together?ā and youād be absolutely right. Those three things should never be put together because then you end up with a book thatās essentially full of incest, substance abuse, and magically animated objects. Actually, considering some of the subjects this book touches on, Iām REALLY surprised itās marketed as YA Fiction.
I love that my wonderful husband enables my book buying problem on my birthday š

After reading The Rule of One and not really liking it, I didnāt have very high hopes for The Rule of Many but Iām happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the second book FAR more than the first.

I think I gave this book more of a shot than I felt like it deserved. I wanted to stop reading pretty much as soon as I realised the entire thing was written in old English style but I kept going because I hate DNFing books that I plan to leave reviews for. But the more I read, the more I wished I had followed my first instinct.
I did it again š³
No fancy picture this time because I'm too tired; just books, a blank wall, and a cat hair covered ottoman. Enjoy lol

I absolutely hate DNFing books, especially when theyāre arcs, it feels a little rude to not finish a book I was given for free, but listen⦠I have been trying to read this book since I requested it back in September 2018. Iāve picked it up and tried to start it so many times Iāve actually lost count, and every single time I never seem to make it past chapter seven before giving up again so Iām just going to call it quits now.
I feel like the writing itself is okay in general, but the pacing is so slow, the plot is not engaging enough, and the characters either feel very one dimensional, inconsistent, or annoyingly cliched. I just couldnāt seem to connect with any single character and the plot wasnāt holding my interest at all. It might be very different the further into the story you get, but for me, my interest needs to be grabbed pretty much immediately or I just wonāt want to keep reading.
I feel bad for not finishing this one but honestly, Iāve been trying for months; I think itās fair to say I gave it a good try and it just wasnāt for me.

Itās taken me a long time to get to this review because Iām still not really sure how I feel about this book, hence the middle-of-the-road three star rating.

So I was reading over POPSUGARās 2019 Reading Challenge and a lot of the prompts could be easily matched up with books on my TBR shelf, so I figured why not try to get them all ticked off? I probably wonāt get them all finished during the year, but itās fun to try!
I tried to not repeat any books and also to only choose books I currently have (both physical and ebook copies) but I had to find new books for some because none of the ones I had fit the prompt. All the blue numbers are books I own and the red ones are books I need to get.
NOTE: Some of these might change as the year goes on and I find books that better fit the prompts. Iāll also be greying out the books as I read them. This is basically just a guideline for me to look at and keep in mind when choosing books to read throughout the year.

I really enjoy Rebecca Raisinās writing. Itās fun, quirky, and she never fails to draw me in and make me feel as though I know her characters personally and feel their pain, happiness, and excitement with them!
