"Have you considered being a subtler, Topknot?" Kirima asks as she comes to take the next watch.

Rangi pulls her gaze away from Kyoshi's sleeping face and puts on her most imperious voice. "I can't imagine what you're talking about."

Unfazed, Kirima says, "Your little secret. Don't worry, its safe with me."

And this puts a shock of ice in Rangi's veins. How have these daofei already figured it out? That Kyoshi is the Avatar? They've been so careful, so tight-mouthed, so—

"There is no secret," Rangi nearly growls, a final defense. "You've been given what you need. And you have your bison now, so I'd watch my tone, if I were you."

Slowly, Kirima's eyebrows rise. The start of a pitying but wholly-entertained smirk.

"Why are you here, girl?" she asks, and again Rangi's eyes stray to Kyoshi, curled up under the good blanket. "I can't decide if the way you look at her is pathetic or adorable. Probably both. So, I know, but—does she know?"

Rangi stays silent. Sears.

Kirima laughs, beyond pleased with herself. "Go. Sleep. Dream of holding hands with your tall girlfriend or whatever."
