Clopin can play the fiddle canonically. This sparked my headcanon that he can also play other instruments with ease. It's crucial he be able to play different instruments alongside being flexible, because it allows for him to jump into different kinds of categories of entertainment.

Due to a major heatwave hitting my country atm I will keep replies short regardless of how long yours are and hope to find some understanding. Because I'm disabled I do not have the energy to write four paragraphs or more and will keep it to one, MAYBE TWO paragraphs only for now.

Ever noticed the gold coins on the ground at the 17-minute mark of HOND?

At first glance, the thick, heavy cross design looks almost like a Crusader Cross or a heavy knight's medal. But Disney really did their homework well. These aren't made-up fantasy coins, nor are they foreign gold (e.g. coins from Jerusalem that knights might have imported). They are based on a real piece of French history.

These coins circulated around the 14th and 15th centuries. To save time (especially lineage for which Disney has to pay) and keep animation clean, the artists completely wiped out the lilies.

By trying to simplify a real French coin for workflow purposes they accidentally transformed the French design into a geometric shape that looks almost like a Cross Potent / Jerusalem Cross. And would have almost prompted me to write a headcanon about how Phoebus went all the way to Israel and back just to pay Esmeralda with foreign coins.

Been talking about it with @emeraldofparis, and in our opinion, the darkness of the HOND intro is unrivaled in every sense of the word. The fact that Disney even got away with it and sold that story as a children's movie is almost audacious, but in a grand way. In fact, I celebrate it.

In today's politically correct world, that kind of gamble sadly wouldn't fly anymore.

Edit: I also still stand by what I said a few days ago: everything we see in HOND could simply be a hoax by Clopin himself. None of the story might have actually happened. He's a storyteller, after all. He thrives on selling the grotesque and the spectacular.

So what we know of Quasi or Frollo needn't even have happened per se.
