Today life gifted me with an epic day. I ran along trails with the Pacific Ocean on one side, grazing elk on the other, and the crystal-clearest winter blue sky above me. It ended at the beach where I sat on driftwood and reflected on the year behind us. I popped open some Sauvignon Blanc to bid adieu to 2015 and on my last sip, I decided to send it to the air to see where the world would take it. I don't know how and I don't know why, but I was able to capture it in its perfect expression: flying freely from the enclosure of my glass to perfectly frame its creator, the Sun. Back to the beginning. Every year is a new start, a continuation of the cycle. I am grateful for the sun, water and wine - three things that have brought me my greatest experiences in life. On my walk around the marina last night after returning to #TheSaus, I spotted the most magnificent large bird perched on top of a boat mast. I'd never seen it before but was totally absorbed by its commanding presence. As I watched it skillfully scan the water for fish, I gasped out loud when I suddenly realized a heron was right in front of me - staring at me calmly with no urgency to fly away. It was such a powerful and unexpected encounter - especially since I was in the middle of reflecting on the hawk's presence on top of the church at Tim & Em's wedding this weekend. These birds had a similar sense of peace and assurance about them. I later found out the large bird was an osprey - the Eagle of the Sea. The wisdom of the winged world is miraculous, and something we will probably never fully understand. I am grateful for their spirit. (at Sausalito Shipyard & Marina)
