A temple to Poseidon

I, Eirene [21], had my name recently changed through process of elimination in a divination session. I am a landlocked sea witch who grew up with horses, relying on them for transport and wishing that was still the way today.

My name change is mentioned because I feel like, through lots of guidance, have finally stepped into my role as a priestess / oracle. This took a lot for me, as devotion consumes me but I have only recently felt ready for this huge step in my life.

One day, I should hope to open a temple of my own sacred place.

This is your space, as well as mine! Do not be afraid to submit any form of devotion for Poseidon and honored deities. This may include art, prayers, experiences, offerings, poetry, spells, dreams, godspouse writings and more to present within the temple.

You may also request readings, prayers, digital offerings, etc! I may make an info graphic if people get more curious.

While I have this post up, it doesn't give much detail and was a while ago.

Triton is a fish-tailed Sea God of Waves and Calm Seas. He was also, in many depictions, Poseidon's herald and had a conch shell trumpet that made the sea rise when he blew it. Sources: 1. 2.

As far as what he's like, I don't have much say in. He is not an active deity for me even if Poseidon is my main deity. I have had passive honoring and offerings of what felt like he was near, but I still can't say much on a concrete personality. That is something as you, the worshiper, will find out. As many deities are different per worshiper (biggest example of this that I consistently see is Apollo and all of his different facets and epithets). Most sources and worshipers agree that he's a calmer deity, but personality shouldn't really be an expectation.

As far as what you SHOULD know is that there is not a lot of records of worship. He is widely accepted as Poseidon and Amphitrite's son, so that might come as a shock. He even has a couple of myths, so it's quite weird we don't have many worship records. This is definitely a deity that you forge your own path with, so keep that in mind. Unless you find other worshipers, you might not find any concrete details on things like alter set up, prayers, and even in depth offerings. Though, with the two worship 101s I gave you, it should be a start until you find out what he likes and what he'd like from you.

It's all okay, and I genuinely apologize for taking so long to get to you! I definitely think you could just keep at the pace you are going now, as overnight connections aren't going to happen nor are they something you want to happen.

Hey, so I may have a opinion on this that I do not see often, but I will still do my best.

I do not see any deity having the scale "beginner to advanced", especially with just reaching out. Yes, some are nicer, but I have never in my experience have them with that type of scaling.

It is much better to just reach out however, out of those three, Poseidon, Amiphitrite and Triton, i would definitely go with Triton first!

Poseidon has a grumpy side to him, especially if you come to him expecting him to work with you instead of plainly worship, but that is just my personal experience!

Amphitrite is lovely, but I only honor her from a far since I am godspoused to Poseidon and we've both agreed that it's more respectful to leave it at a tea light candle on Poseidon's altar.

Triton is amazing in both work and worship, and out of them is definitely the happiest to recieve any newbies who love the ocean.

I have been homeless for months, and beyond that every single thing I own has been in storage during this time. This includes my altars, which has been heartbreaking for us.

But aside with all that, I will be without internet from this point on for an undetermined amount of time. This means no posts, reblogs, or asks will be answered but you are free to leave any!!

While I'm not in a desert, I am a landlocked sea witch in the Appalachia, even more so now after my move. I could also count on one hand the amount of times i've even seen the ocean before Lord Poseidon reached out to me.

My discord server has a plethora of sea deities, Lord Poseidon is just the one i focus on the most. This is just one resource though.

I would personally start looking into your main pantheons sea deities. For hellenism, there are so many and I totally agree with you on that.

Some of the main sea deities are, of course, Lord Poseidon but also his Theoi Halioi. These deities work underneath my Lord, and are honestly not too heard of on some occasions.

Time and time again, I get people questioning, rather rudely, how I can worship a "god like Poseidon" and "after what he's done". I just want to ask that you kindly keep it to yourself. Do not come onto my safe space, my page that I work tirelessly to make safe for others as well, a religious space, just to leave rather distasteful and rude asks or comments pertaining to my worship of Poseidon.

Myth literacy is a big issue in this community, and I want that to come to light. These myths are written by famously horrible men, with famously horrible treatment of women for the time period most myths were written in. These myths are just that. Myths. It is not a retelling of an event that happened. Most are just literature themes of common events that took place during the time.

These myths are artistic expression. Treat them as such.

This is a religious space. A space I hope to welcome all to, but I will not be treated poorly in doing so.

I pray for protection from earthquakes, a lot. People pray to a god typically because of their domain, but with Poseidon it is mainly a type of protection for me.

Let mens eyes glide over and not at you

Chronically ill and homeless edition <3

Water is NOT a lazy offering. Drink it in honor of him, do libations with it, stir in some flavorings clockwise for an energy boost

Relax with some ocean soundscapes in the background, or while you walk place to place

Decorate your mobility aids with ocean scenery or cute little sharks and trident stickers.

To avoid ranting on, I'll put it short. When talking to my friend about their greek god oc, I essentially completely denied the gods' existence and lightheartrdly laughed about it. My friend gave me a list of greek gods to learn about for fun but for some reason whenever I see or think of Poseidon now, I feel like I'm being watched. Like he's hanging around just to be like 'I don't exist, huh?'

If it is him, I love the sense of humor but also this feels ominous. Likely cause I'm not used to it.

Okay, yes, I definitely had this experience, too. I've never doubted they weren't real, however I've ignored his call for an unnumbered amount of years. He was always hanging around, even giving glaringly obvious signs he was there. He loves to prove a point in my experience.

However, a lot of gods also do this, but trust your gut. They all have a lovely since of humor, as they've adapted with humanity as time goes on.

I ask bc I asked him to send me a sign if I can worship him, I always have a habit of doing this

and I haven't gotten a sign for a while now but don't know what to potentially look out for

I see Poseidon through all aspects of my life. Through the streams to the waves, through the horses I see day to day, through the clouds shaped as various shapes of fish, through people picking up liter around the earth, through classes for bettering oneself, through little cracks in the earth from errosion.

Water is all around us. You do not need signs to worship, nor is Poseidon keen on giving them. If you feel a calling to worship, then just do it.

Lord Poseidon is all around us, you just have to take notice of and appreciate his smaller aspects that are not horses, tridents, or even the ocean. I might make a post on it soon. <3
