Not on topic for this blog at all I apologise but I wish there was more space in this fandom to talk about Jax's godawful writing WITHOUT bringing her transness into it.
The rabbit being a girl? Awesome! Cute! Fun rep! Glad it impacted part of the audience positively! I don't have any critique there.
Having her flirt with the character she's been routinely abusing? Giving her no linear character development or improvement outside of a flashback in the finale? It all felt like a lazy ploy to make her more likable without actually giving us any reason to invest. I would have really enjoyed seeing her open up about this more directly, maybe spent some time with her realising how her internalised misogyny and transphobia was turning her into an abuser.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great explanation and motive behind Jax's actions. But Explanation =/= Excuse. There was no redemption. I do not care that she has a tragic backstory because nothing came of it.
I think the show as a whole has an issue with the "show don't tell" advice, especially when the brain-scans part of the plot, the key thing the series was working towards, was like 2 sentences said to your face at the start of the final episode.

Karr and Kitt both hate water, for different reasons:
See Karr who was trapped at a beach for 2 years would probably dislike it. Now pair that with the fact of instead of figuring the logistics on how to swim, he's more focused on the fact that it's trying to pull him under- water-
Now, Kitt who had a literal acid bath would probably hate being submerged in ANY kind of liquid regardless of how harmless it is.
They also are both horrible swimmers to begin with.

sorry it's been a while without any updates, zombiemachine is still sitting in the garage with a busted engine and it's taking a heavy toll on my mental health not knowing whether or not I'll be able to save her.
it's been really tough relying on loved ones for rides to and from work, and it'll take me a bit over a year to save for the repairs on my own, which is a lot longer than i can feasibly go without my own transportation.
there's been a little more progress on the fundraiser, it's gotten up to over $1k now! thank you to everyone who's donated, and i hope we can get some momentum going again after a while of silence <3
So I've been working on this larger Knight Rider AU, and it's nowhere close to done, but I feel like I gotta put part of it out into the world, so without further ado
Theater Teacher Garthe AU
Apologies in advance for how much I wrote
For starters, Garthe doesn't die at the end of Goliath Returns because he's too cool to die
While wandering around trying to plot his revenge, he discovers the remains of KARR and decides that he needs to rebuild him as part of his plan
Garthe fixes up KARR, and together, they go to get revenge on their goody-two-shoes twins
Cut to them causing trouble (we could probably get a good 2-3 episodes of this)
Somewhere along the lines, they both realize that Michael and KITT aren't the actual problems just symptoms of the problem that was Wilton Knight
Anyway, the actual logistics of how they figure this out is unimportant because this is all just the lead up to:
THE CRASHOUT OF THE CENTURY
While I think that KARR would be relatively normal about all this, Garthe is absolutely losing it
After all the fight has left him, Garthe decides to go to Devon, one of the few people who really knew his father and knew his situation
Devon is (understandably) ready to throw hands when Garthe suddenly appears in his office, but it doesn't take long for him to notice that this is not the same Garthe that has been terrorizing the Foundation, this is a man that has lost control and is desperately reaching out for help
After some discussion, Devon agrees to help Garthe get a second chance at life with a clean record
Garthe decides to get rid of his father's name and use his mother's maiden name instead. His new name is Garthe Bishop
Devon is still wary of Garthe and what he'll do with this new life, but to everyone's surprise, he goes to university and majors in theater education (opportunity for cute "KARR supporting Garthe as he goes through college"/"KARR not understanding college" moments here but we don't have time to dig into specifics)
Once he graduates he gets a job as a theater teacher for a local high school and he runs the drama department like the navy
Students are super intimidated by Mr. Bishop when they first meet him, but it doesn't take long before they realize that he's actually super chill
Garthe knows what it's like to not have a great support system and he's more than willing to be there for these kids (he consistently has at least 3 students eating lunch in his classroom on any given day)
For this next part it's important to note that this AU is a part of a larger AU in which Michael and KITT have raised a kid together (my friend and I have sorta decided that somehow they ended up raising Mike from KR 2008 but don't worry about it)
Anyway, once Mike gets to high school he decides to take the theater class with Mr. Bishop
Garthe gets his class list for the year and sees he has a student named "Michael 'Mike' Knight" and he is trying not to freak out about it, because surely this is just a coincidence, Michael is a common enough name and surely there are other people with the last name Knight
Until he meets his new student and sees how he behaves for five minutes and, yup, there's no denying it, that is Michael Knight's kid alright
Meanwhile, Mike just spends the entire class period trying to figure out why the fuck his teacher looks like his dad
After chatting with some other Knight Rider friends, I have decided that Devon is Garthe's biological father.
We all know that Devon likely had something going on with both Wilton and Elizabeth, it would not surprise me if they were all screwing around with each other at some point. During this period of time, Elizabeth finds out she's pregnant and, in true Mamma Mia fashion, she doesn't know which one of them is the father. This being the late 1940s, it's expected that she'll marry whoever the father is, and since she doesn't really know, she ends up choosing Wilton (but they all know there's a chance Devon is the actual father).
I feel like this all just adds an extra layer to so many different relationships in the show. This becomes part of the reason that Wilton doesn't love Garthe as much because there is a possibility that he's not his. And for Elizabeth, Garthe is a reminder of the love that Devon once had for her. And that would add an extra layer to Wilton making Michael look like Garthe, not only is he now the kind of son Wilton wished Garthe was, but now he finally has a son that is definitively his.
This would also make Devon's line to Wilton about how Michael "looks a lot like a younger version of you" pretty sad. All these years later and Devon is still trying to convince his friend (and maybe himself) that Garthe is Wilton's.
As for why I say that Devon is definitively Garthe's father, after I brought this headcanon up to some friends @crazychimken12 found these younger pictures of the actors for Wilton and Devon
Now compare them to Garthe
I'm sorry, but there's no way Wilton is related to Garthe.
