"Yo no sé mañana" is a song by Luis Enrique that came out in 2009. I was a junior in high school. I wish I could tell you that I remember the first time I heard it on the radio but I just remember it being bien peg'a. All the Latino radio stations were playing it. It was catchy.

The lyrics said, I don't know what may happen tomorrow, if we'll be together of if the world ends, idk if I'm for you or if you're for me, don't ask me for anything that is of time.

And I fucking hated that song. Who the fuck is asking you to know tomorrow? Also, why don't you have a plan in place? She's clearly wanting to know if this is for a moment- you're playing with her feelings, or are you going to grow some balls and love her and commit?

And for years, I hated this song. I was a stuck up bitch who had to plan every little thing, had to do everything right, and enjoyment wasn't even a thing I could conceptualize.

It wasn't until I grew up quite a bit after college, that I finally listened to the lyrics, let myself sway to the beat, and get lost in the agreement that all we have is this moment. Let people fuck without attachments. Let people have fun. Life shouldn't be that serious.

I invited Squid Friend to come along to a Spanish meetup. Not the one attended for 4 years before COVID shut it down. But the bigger social one on the other side of the neighborhood. I recognized one face in that hazy, I've-seen-you-someplace-before way, but it was a small group. Granted I chose to attend the week that most of the US goes on vacation.

I asked how Squid felt about it and she was slightly overwhelmed. It was a lot in her brain. She's only been informally studying/practicing Spanish for three months. But I felt she was ready to listen and be lost. She picks up quick. And even though she couldn't produce a whole lot, she kept up well.

I sat in front of one of the organizers who's very gregarious and slightly off putting. It's funny because he's the reason behind a microagression and he lowkey pissed me off (more disappointed than anything) but we had a decently deep convo. Essentially, he's somebody who makes travelling a major part of their personality as a gringo, like someone who wants to be a part of the in-crowd so bad, and he plays the mask pretty well but still doesn't want to be considered a part of the crowd because he looks down on brown people deep down.
