Saskatoon Sauce or Pie filling For 1 pie If making a pie preheat oven to 425 degrees F -4 cups Saskatoon berries -1/4 cup water -1/2 brown sugar -1 tbsp connamon -1/4 cup lemon juice (or juice of 1-2 lemons) -1-2 tbsp of vanilla extract Combine ingredients and bring to boil. Then simmer for 20-30 minutes. Sask berry is a meaty berry that needs tenderizing and this also thickens and condenses the juices. When done simmering, If making into pie filling combine 1tsp of cornstarch with 1 tbsp of water and let liquid lightly boil until it thickens and is clear . Remove from heat and use in pie recipe. W/tenderflake pie crust I: Filled bottom shell with filling and placed top shell on. Glazed shell with melted coconut oil and pressed edges of crust with fork Bake in preheated oven (425 degrease F) for 15 minutes. Then reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake for an additional 35 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown. Set minimum of 4-5 hrs. I like mine chilled. Leave out if you like or cool in fridge once pie has sat a minimum of 90 minutes.
