“How do you not find the music here to be grating?” His voice is soft– yet it still manages to travel to the deity’s ear unencumbered. The moonlit male is practically wincing at every thrum of the bass line– uncertain how his companion managed to convince him to come here. Something about– observing mortals in their natural habitat. 

“I do not understand why it must be so loud!” The sounds were a roar over the clinking of dishes, the movements of bodies on the dance floor, and the chatter of the other guests. The noise coming from the speakers around the establishment could only be described as excessive from Mani’s perspective.

Still– he needed a night out. A break from it all. A good time.

Who better than the god of good times to show him around?

“Oh, cupcake. You are fucking   a d o r a b l e .” And him--he’s high already, hit by the wave of energy at the door and swimming in it ever since. On another night he might’ve fought through it, amped up his own personal miasma to keep the glorious wash of human emotion at bay, but tonight he’s feeling  RAW  with it, wild about it, ready to tear his clothes off and dance under the moon--and there’s no wondering why, really. He’s sure he had a follow-up quip ready for that setup, something about the noise and just feeling it move through you, but turning to mention it to Mani sent the thought spinning out to the corner of his mind and old habits--they die hard--set in in his moment of utter loss. Two hands cup the moon’s face, sweet and ginger, reverent--the way mortals hold butterflies, the way he used to hold mortals. Dio’s face is filled with sweet awe as his wine-dark eyes drink in the cut of Mani’s eyes, the color, the shape of his cheekbones, nose, lips, all sweeping together to form--

“Fucking adorable.” The repetition is quiet, more winded breath than sound, floating unbidden from between parted lips.

And in a blink, Dio snaps back to the right time and place--to a noisy danceclub somewhere far away from Greece and her temples, to tight-fitting clothes and bodies rutting to electronic beats, out of the hazy, sweet, drunken past of man and into its present. His hands drop away but the reverence doesn’t quite leave his face. (Selene is one of his oldest friends; in a way, Mani might be, too.) He laughs once, softly, and settles his face into a different kind of grin, one made not of honey and wine and the breeze of an ocean shore but of sticky-sweet vape-smoke, cigarette ashes, whiskey and coke.

“They say a god walks among us,” Dionysus--Dionysia here, something ambrosial to the ears--whispered, leaning herself against the corner and turning to look at Ella.

“Y’know,” Dionysus purred in a voice like honeyed wine, leaning over to the nearby stranger with a smoky smile on her lips, “they say  LUCIFER  is coming back.”

“Well, if it isn’t my very favorite fox!” It isn’t. But he needs a favor, fast and easy, and between the simpering smirk on his lips and the soft light in his ancient eyes, he can’t help but feel that a little bit of flattery is going to go a long way.

“--and when I say big, Ang, I mean   B I G !  You could take somebody’s eye out with that thing! (And honey, I was--as you can guess--a kid in a fuckin’ candystore.)”

“But okay, okay, the   s p i c y   stuff aside, we’re laying there in bed both panting--and I mean, I’m the one who was scaling Everest here, what’s he panting for?--but we’re both laying there panting when he gets this phone call in. And takes it, which is why he’s never seeing this ass again without paying first. But anyway, he takes this call and I’m bored out of mind and about to start pawing around in a drawer when his tone   s h i f t s.  Goes from cold and distant to warm and cuddly--Ang, I swear to my god and yours, I’m not making this up--the guy is talking to his kid! I boned a married a guy! A married straight!

“And it gets better!

“’Cause WHO is this bonehead I’ve just blown up one side and down the other? Oh, guess! Guess! You’re never going to guess! Guess!It’s the guy from Christmart! You know, the jackass with the nosy wife-manager who’s been picketing my shop!
