personality.
Dee's life and character mostly revolves around the trauma of losing her brother at a young age, her trauma is so deeply rooted that her loss has become part of her character. Even though she doesn't talk about it - she tries to find happiness in anything possible even though nothing in life has made her feel the joy she once had as a kid. Love is hard for her to give into, especially the romantic kind, she rather walks away and blocks herself emotionally off than surrender herself entirely, in fear of losing someone so close and dear to her again. Yet she is still needy to have someone around... it's like she can't make up her mind but it still makes sense in a way. She is tough to love but those who care for her, she cares for in return, her way of showing care is usually buying them stuff or i.e. doing the other's dishes or anything like that. Last but not least, Dee is open to do a lot of things (again something along the lines of trying to seek happiness in anything).
the basics.
The LaBelle's have owned an estate winery in Ennora for as long as they can remember, the estate having been in the family for generations long. In 1978, Delilah was born to the proud Arthur and Amelia LaBelle as their second child, sister of their firstborn 4 year old Elijah. Needless to say, Delilah grew up in wealth and luxury, never having had anything short financially. Dee and Eli grew up to be the bestest of friends, always playing together, running across the vineyard, sharing a bedroom and doing homework together. Wherever Dee fell short educationally, Eli, being the intelligent one out of the two, helped her out with a patience she never inherited. With workaholics of a parents, the two heavily relied on each other. It was Dee and Eli against the world.
At the age of 12, Dee's entire world collapsed inevitably. Eli had gotten into an accident late at night, on his way home from a party, only to never arrive home. Sirens, red and blue lights took over the estate, making them rush to the hospital. A drunk driver had done a hit and run, a tourist that had had a few too many and ran Eli off his bike. Anxiety, fear and adrenaline had coursed through her body on the way towards the hospital, the car drive had seemed never-ending as Eli was fighting for his life. That night she'd seen her parents broken by grief when the dreadful news came Eli had not made it. That night had changed something in her, made an unreversible crack in her psyche.
Nothing had felt the same ever since. The love she once held for the world had been irreparably damaged. Dee had a hard time loving people back, be it familial, platonically and especially romantically. Something that only became harder and harder to do over time. The closer people tried to get, the more she distanced herself. Some people she tried to allow to be in her life. One of them being her best friend, a childhood friend she made from a young age. One of few who got to experience Dee at her lowest and still happened to be there for her. Her best friend, an angel of a woman Dee could never repay for all the good deeds she'd done for her.
Her brother's death. The older she got, the more cracks started to show and talk went around town. Delilah needed to leave her hometown in order to breathe, to desperately try and find the one thing that could potentially heal what was broken inside her, to make word go around town she left on a ''work trip'' when really she needed to get the fuck out. Travel around the world, Europe, Asia, Australia, wherever felt furthest and safest. The work trips existing of alcoholism, of partying, of spending money, of fucking strangers, of buying clothes and gifts and presents for those she called her loved ones, of living in luxury without a care in the world. Only to return home and feel a sense of dread and leave for another work trip quicker than the one before.
Eventually her travels became less frequent, when her parents needed more help in the winery, when she didn't feel the need to leave town as much anymore. And when her best friend's life collapsed, like hers had fallen apart many moons ago, she'd been there for her. Every single night. Holding her, soothing her, comforting her in any way she could despite not entirely knowing how. Dee had made a promise to herself to always take care of her best friend after all.
Now she can be found frequently around the LaBelle's Winery and around downtown. Dee still splurges into luxury, dining out, shopping, fucking around discreetly and most especially avoids talking about feelings altogether.
