With artfight around the corner, here's a reminder:

ARTFIGHT IS FOR FUN.

Don't feel pressured to make a ton of attacks or revenges or whatever. Nobody can pressure you into drawing what you don't wanna.

If you can't draw everything you want too THATS OKAY!! ITS JUST FOR FUN!! If you want too, you can still draw characters and stuff after the fight as Gift art! Most people still would love to see/receive anything of their beans!

If you feel yourself getting stressed or burnt out: TAKE A BREAK!!! Again: It's for fun and should not cause your strife! We'll all still be here all month. Draw what you wanna draw! And draw only the amount you want too!!

Take your time buddy, remember to pace yourself. There's no rush.

Because of this, there are a ton of different tables where the foods are set up, and everyone is sitting at the table where they enjoy the food the best.

But there’s a lot of different food, and so you’re going to walk between tables getting all the stuff you want.

And while you’re doing this, you’re going to pass by tables with food at them that you don’t like. And often it’ll be food you’ve never seen before or tried, and sometimes that food looks gross or bad to you.

If you walk past that food and point at it and go ‘that’s disgusting!’ You’re an asshole! Because even if it’s food you don’t like, someone still worked really hard on it, right? And the people at that table who are enjoying it are going to feel really bad for enjoying it because you just called their favourite food disgusting!

When you go out of your way to walk across the hall from your table where you’re enjoying your food to point at someone else’s dinner and yell ‘EEEEEEEEWWWWWW!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD GROSS!!’ You’re UNEQUIVOCALLY AN ASSHOLE!!! Because you could have just stayed at your table where you like all the food but you went out of your way to tell them that their food sucks

If you walk past that food and point at it and say ‘I personally think that food is vile and gross and weird and disgusting BUT i don’t fault anyone for eating it :)’ you’re STILL an asshole because you came to THEIR table to point at their food and gawk at it while they’re eating.

Because you didn’t take the time to think ‘well they like that food, so it’s not my business.’ Or ‘I don’t have to eat that food, so I can just move on’ or ‘i probably just don’t like that food because I’ve never tried it before and I don’t know what’s in it, but they know, and they like it, so it’s not my problem’.

But most importantly of all, you never had to stop at that table at all. Because you aren’t eating the food there. Sometimes people will pass you and your table with food you don’t like, and even if you don’t like it, they’re just walking around the same potluck hall as you.

And yes. I saw the puppy people, and the mostly naked guys with their dicks in cages, and the women being walked on leashes, and the people in gimp suits, and the butches smoking cigars wearing not a stitch above the belt but pasties.

And you know what happened?

I kept fucking walking. Because even at my young age I knew that what they were doing with their bodies was none of my goddamn business. I knew they’d been there longer than me, and they’d seen a hundred times the prides I had, and how many of them had lived in a world where they didn’t GET a pride parade. Not a safe one anyways.

To think that we live in a world where queer people can walk outside stripped bare and fear no bullet or blade in the company of their kind is beautiful to me.

In portuguese, much like spanish, we have no gender neutral pronouns. People who do not use ele/dele and ela/dela (he/him or she/her) all use whatever neopronoun suits them best in portuguese (ie elu/delu, eli/deli) because we have no access to a universal gender neutral pronoun like gringos do. When I brought this up upon them making fun of my "neopronouns", they said to suck it up, and that being foreign does not make neos valid.

In mocking people who use neopronouns in english, you are mocking a very large sum of latin american genderqueer and trans people.

I know various latin language speakers that struggle with their identities in their native tongue due to us not having they/them equivalents, so they are forced to let go of their, in example, brazilian queerness, to appease to anglos who would harass them and call them mockeries of trans people for not sticking to what The Cis want.

When non-anglos tell you the usamerican and british dominance over queer spaces ruins things for them, they mean it. We are forced to repress our identites because you people think they're too "out there and problematic". We are forced to suppress our own queer culture because we don't fit into your neat little boxes of what makes someone gay what makes someone a lesbian what makes someone trans or what makes someone anything else.

You tell us to remember "our queer elders", but do you know of any queer latin american figures? We learn your history, and you refuse to learn ours because you already have "too much on your plate". You disregard us and shame us for not fitting your ideals of queerness and using labels for ourselves you dislike, and try to baby us and tell us the proper way to be gay.

Your culture is not universal.

You are not saving queer people by making jabs at other queer people you don't personally get. Odds are you are harming an entire group of foreign queers you never bothered to consider, because your anglo bubble is too self important.

If you want to do queer people a real favour instead of getting mad at identities that existed long before you were even born, here. Make yourself useful. Donate to queer brazilian housing and support programs. Your beloved dollar is worth a lot more than the Real. Even five dollars help.
