there’s a really good episode of criminal about this

i think one of the gay experiences that isn’t talked about enough is going back in the closet. Like how having a partner who’s not out and going back to sneaking around or being stuck in a homophobic environment after you went through the process of coming out to your community and being confident in yourself and your sexuality… fucking sucks because you’re suddenly reliving everything you thought was behind you. Yea that.

Not to detail but I wanna add that some people have to do this after decades of being out and it lasts the rest of their lives. Because there are so few LGBT positive homes for the elderly and many locations where people end up are run by conservative christian charities. Many elderly people spend the last years of their lives in the closet, changing the pronouns when they talk about visiting the grave of the love of their life, lying about why they never had children with their spouse, dreading the nurse because they might notice the transition history of their body as they help them out of bed. When an LGBT positive home is available, it often means moving far away from the people who might visit you, which means another form of loneliness. It is so so important that this changes.

This makes me so happy to hear, I as well have a cane and struggle with people’s comments and invasive questions and internalized shame of having to use one, and drawing my character with a cane, made me feel so so much better about myself! So I’m happy to hear it made you happy too!  ♡
