𝐈𝐓'𝐒 𝐋𝐔𝐈𝐆𝐈 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 !

                          luigi  hums,  taking  in  the  sight  of  the  still  vibrant  fire-flowers.  “well,  s’long  as  yer  okay.”  there’s  not  much  he  could  really  do  or  say  about  it  now  given  everything’s  already  been  dealt  with.  still  “is  yer  hand  okay?”  it’d  be  pretty  bad  if  it  had  gotten  burned  while  trying  to  haul  her  little  spoils  outta  there.  

“Yeah, well…I’m a Kong so, thanks for singling me out here, buddy.” Waving a hand in the air dismissively, DK gives the green shaded plumber a sour face. “…well that’s because Mario is a prick. No surprise there.”

                        &  blinks  again  before  a  smile  breaks.  “we  did  that  ⸻  ”  &  then,  he’s  spinning  in  place,  a  thousand  questions  on  the  tip  of  his  tongue.  none  that  come  in  lieu  of  him  eagerly  grabbing  at  the  red  of  mario's  shirt  to  give  it  a  little  shake.  “we  really  did  that?!    how  did  we  do  that?”  

“that might be 'cause i am terrified.” the strangled noise that comes out of him sure is something! it’s a wonder any words managed to form what with the constant, tiny tremors wracking the entirety of his frame. ducking, luigi swings his flashlight up & over the dark canvas of the thicket. “i don’t know what that was.” he hisses, eyes peeled for anything suspicious as he absently gravitates towards the security of his older brother. “but i think we should go.” a pause, a beat & he turns his gaze onto mario. pleading. “we can go, right?”

doubts ⸻ ? “i dunno, i wouldn't say i have doubts…exactly.” & for the most part, he didn’t. he was more than content in life, surrounded by people that cared for him & he, in turn, cared for. working alongside his brother, always a plus, not to mention the days where he was able to branch off on his own & just explore, or try new things, meet new folks, yanno, the works. even still, luigi cannot deny that every once in a while, there’s a little voice in the back of his head that tells him he could have done faster, done better, been just a little bit braver.

if he had to put a name to those feelings ⸻ if he absolutely had to label them….more than anything, he’d say it was guilt.

“i just ⸻” at some point, luigi had started to idly fumble & pick at his fingers. an absent gesture to placate himself as he thought. “i” he starts, hesitates, & then with a shake of his head & a breath barrels on. “have ya ever looked at somethin’ and thought. i wanna get stronger?”

“Oh!” Liza stiffened slightly at the poke, startled but forcing herself not to show it. Gazing upon the man in front of her, she realizes there’s no reason to be startled; he’s behaving in a perfectly respectful manner. Eyes fix on the object in his hand, widening the way they often do upon acute recognition.

The silk kerchief he was holding, that had her initials embroidered in it. “My goodness, thank you! I-I don’t know what I would have done if I had lost this. It was…” She stopped before she could finish the sentence with “a gift from my mother”.

“It’s very important to me. Thank you, for your kindness in returning it to me.”

                   now,  that’s  a  look  he  knows  rather  well.  it’s  one  he’s  seen  on  mario’s  face  from  time  to  time.  especially  when  they’re  handling  something  they’d  brought  over  from  their  home.  &  while  he  doesn’t  know  why  such  a  thing  would  provoke  such  a  heavy  emotion  from  the  young  lady,  he  finds  that  he’s  in  no  position  to  ask.  a  nod  is  given,  once  the  article  is  lifted  from  his  careful  fingers.  “no  problemo.”  it  woulda  been  a  shame  for  her  to  lose  something  so  cherished.  

a chuckle breaks into the space between them; light & airy. happy to see another soul converted in the face of a good linguine. “see, waddya i tell ya? nothin’ beats mama’s recipe.” luigi comes to find himself relaxing at the princess’ table. contently digging through his own plate of pasta. idly, he lifts a fork & gestures it towards her.
