She stared at her grandma's ring
Her heart pounding. Grandma had entrusted her with this ring and she was going to be very careful with it. It had survived 45 years of marriage and was now thinning with age. She stared at the light blue aquamarine, which was almost clear in certain lights. This ring was to be her protector, as it had protected her grandmother from age 17, and now it was passed on to her.
She had to wear it steathily, for it had secret powers. She couldn't let just anyone know she was wearing it. Should she wear it at training? No, those jerks from the outside would tease her about it. She would definitely wear it to her secret hideout in the woods, her fairy garden. She'd promised her grandma she would keep this treasuure safe, and she vowed to herself she would never lose it.
For within this ring held a secret. Etched on the inside of the band were the words "To thine self be true." She admired her grandma who had lived these words out every single day, never caring about the opinions of others and only holding hers to keep her strong. She would wearr this ring especially when she felt scared and unsure trusting that it would keep her safe. Nevermind those jerks. She decided she would wear it anywhere she wanted..scaling the hills on the edge of the city, or while teaching her dragon, Kraye.
And perhaps when she was old, she would gift it to a younger student to protect them and bring them closer to their true self, and the heirloom would continue through a new generation.
