Fast Facts:

Socially, Emmeline adopted the same strategy that had done so well for her in primary school. She was quick to join in her housemates’ conversations about complex magical theory and always willing to listen to a fellow Ravenclaw run on about whatever topic held their interest at any given moment. She joined any and all of the clubs that would have her and made friends with students outside of her house as well. She even joined the quidditch team her fourth year and became something of a celebrity in her house. For a while, it looked like everything was coming up Emmeline.

Emmeline’s greatest strength is her adaptability. Even now, years after deciding she would live solely within the magical world, she can still navigate muggle society with ease and grace. It’s what’s allowed her to be a part of so many different friend groups, even if only on the fringes. She had a much smoother transition her first year at Hogwarts than many of her peers because of her easy going nature. It comes out in different ways, for one, Emmeline is a fantastic liar, able to improvise on command and come up with a plausible explanation for just about anything. 

It took Emmeline a while to realize that her wand was just reacting to the emotional turmoil within herself. Just because she had seen her parents’ divorce coming did not mean she had no feelings to process about it. In fact, it turned out she was angry. She was furious with her parents for taking so long to do what she’d always known they needed to do. As soon as she admitted that to herself, her magic started slowly coming back under her control.

Rumors:

The Good; “Emmeline Vance is always down for a good time.” Emmeline may have been a late arrival on the party scene, but what she lacked in experience she’s always made up for in enthusiasm. Emmeline will never say no to one more drink, one more dance, one more hour at a party.

The Bad; “Emmeline Vance is a fair weather friend.” While Emmeline wouldn’t describe herself as such, it’s true. She’s not one to stick around when things get tough, and she never gets close enough to anyone to really be any kind of support system.

Fast Facts:

Defense against the Dark Arts is Alice’s best subject/branch of magic. Her interest in it started before Hogwarts, before she even had a true understanding of what the subject itself actually was. Young Alice just knew she wanted to “save the world” and help people. It opened the door for dueling, where it turned out she was naturally skilled. She knew she was definitely given an advantage by how unassuming she came off. Nobody expected sweet, helpful, Alice to whip out her wand and take down the best of them during dueling practice.

Alice’s primary bad habit is giving too much without taking time to regroup, relax, and take care of herself. She willingly and eagerly gives of herself to help and support others, and she truly does get joy from it. But that doesn’t keep it from draining her at times, especially when combined with auror and Order work. It also means that she quite frequently gets put in the delicate situation of playing peacemaker, and has her hands in many pots.

Alice can proudly hold her own during a fight or a duel, and while she does enjoy the satisfaction of fighting for what she believes in, she’s not bloodthirsty and wishes that violence and killing didn’t have to be the way to change things. But she’s certainly not one to sit back because it’s not her most preferred way of handling conflict; she’s going to get out there and do her best to create a better future for the world and those around her, whether she knows them or not. 

Rumors:

Good: If Alice senses you need a pick-me-up, she’ll bring you some ice cream from her Uncle’s shop (or another treat of your choice if somehow ice cream isn’t your thing).

Bad: Alice has a stubborn streak. While she’s a natural peacemaker and mentor figure, that doesn’t mean that she will shy away from voicing what she believes, especially if she thinks that something is a bad idea or that there are alternative options for handling something. She isn’t one to yell, but when she gets that quiet, determined, intensity in her voice, you’d better listen.

Fast Facts:

Officially speaking, Rita is first and foremost a gossip columnist, and occasionally a dogsbody if someone needs an errand ran and the interns are busy. However, if you were to ask her what her job was, she would proudly say reporter. She has been called out for this several times by colleagues who believe she is misrepresenting herself and the paper, but as she so eloquently put it to the Daily Prophet’s sports correspondent when he tried to bring it up with her; “People are a damn sight more interested in rumours about Pureblood inbreeding than they are the Chudley fucking Cannons’ latest disaster, Travis, so you can shove your job titles.” 

Rita is fuelled by many things – coffee, ambition, adrenaline, pure spite – but the thing that fuels her most of all is her insecurity. For as long as she can remember she has felt inferior. Now, though more comfortable in herself than she has ever been, Rita undoubtedly still feels inferior, now to her colleagues at the Prophet. She knows very well that they look down on her and see her work as nothing more than a waste of column inches and her as a hack, but over the years, criticism has become less of a dent to her confidence, and more of a fuel to the fire inside her that urges her to prove everyone wrong. 

Rita has the natural ability to spin straw into gold, taking a boring topic with insufficient detail and describing it in a way that makes it sound compelling and persuasive (she was told off on more than one occasion at Hogwarts for making her essays “too entertaining”). It’s how the rumours she crafts often become so popular – they are always grounded enough in reality that they’re believable, and yet it is her own embellishments that bring them to life.

Rumors:

Good: “Rita Skeeter can find out anything about anyone.” Think your boyfriend’s cheating? Want to know where your friend keeps disappearing to when she thinks you’re asleep? Need blackmail material on someone who’s wronged you? Ask Rita, and you’ll most likely get your answer within 3-5 working days. She won’t tell you how she found out though, so don’t bother asking.

Bad: “Rita Skeeter never talks about her family.” Rita has mastered the art of telling you enough about herself that you think you know her and have been let into her inner circle, but the reality is she has told you nothing of substance. It turns out it’s fairly common knowledge that she can play the cello, and that she lost her virginity in one of the greenhouses to Timothy Clearwater. Her career goals, her favourite book, the birth mark on her arse that resembles a crescent moon - it’s all old news. But where is she from? What do her parents do? Is she an only child? And what did she say her blood status was again?

The dog days of summer are upon us once more! There’s not much to say here other than the usual aesthetic ‘sun is shining, people are sweating, get excited for the Quidditch World Cup event!’ stuff. So instead? I am going to copy + paste some lyrics to August by Taylor Swift.

Davey Gudgeon & Emma Vanity’s Camp 

In one of the most unexpected business transactions in the last few years, Emma Vanity and Davey Gudgeon last year opened up a two-week Quidditch summer training camp for child and teen-aged witches and wizards, after working as counselors at the camp the year prior to that. 

The business has made some impressive corporate partnerships and garnered some very generous charity over the last twelve months and will soon open its cabin doors for another class of campers. 

Quidditch World Cup

The 418th Quidditch World Cup will take place at the end of this month. 

The Cup is being held in the Moroccan seaside town of Skhirat. 

Facing off will be the national Quidditch teams of Argentina and India.

More details about the Cup and its associated events—including some pre- and post-partying, naturally—will be announced in subsequent event posts.

Ofelia is not from High Society, something few people in England know about. So far, she’s managed to avoid any faux pas by merit of her education at Beauxbatons, one of the classes she truly excelled at was Etiquette, a required course for all who attend the French Academie. 

Growing up, Ofelia was intensely aware of this fact, that she was in the way. A different, more timid, child might have shrunk, wilting away in an attempt to please their parents’ obvious desire for them not to exist, but not Ofelia. Instead, Ofelia decided to do what she would attempt many times throughout her life, she would wear them down, with love. She was polite, helpful, affectionate, and she had a smile that could light up a whole damn house. But to Ofelia’s parents, she was always underfoot and interrupting, never a welcome distraction, only a constant annoyance. 

Ofelia and Quentin’s courtship was a remarkably short one, and they were married when Ofelia was still just nineteen. The ensuing months have been a whirlwind of change for the young woman. She’s had to learn all of the ins and outs of the society she now finds herself a part of on the fly, and it’s been draining. Quentin is, to her, a knight in shining armor, the hero of her own personal fairytale, and if she has that, she’s sure everything else will follow.

Rumors:

The Good: “Ofelia Jugson is just about the sweetest person you will ever meet.” If girls are made of “sugar and spice and everything nice,” whoever made Ofelia clearly forgot one of the ingredients. Upon first meeting, and second and third, Ofelia gives the same impression as the baked goods she’s so fond of distributing, light, sweet, and sure to leave a smile on your face.

The Bad: “All of Ofelia Jugson’s niceness is just an act.” Ofelia’s kindness is a choice that she makes. She believes it is always better to be soft and gentle, but her motivation is not just from the goodness of her heart. She is nice because she wants people to love her, so it also comes from a place of selfishness.
