      “  SPENDING  A  RECKLESS  AMOUNT  OF  MONEY  on  all  this  nonsense,  but  can’t  spare  the  budget  for  cheese,  ”  simon  scoffs,  though  he  tries  to  mask  his  disgust  for  the  sake  of  attractive  company.   “  wouldn’t  want  to  get  you  caught  up  in  my  trouble,  miss  whitton   —–   and  might  i  say,  you’re  looking  divine.  ”  a  smirk  rests  easily  on  his  lips.  “  surely  this  is  just  an  excuse  to  drink  MORE,  right  ?  ”

          “  YOU  KNOW,  I’D  GLADLY  TRADE  a  few  of  these  champagne  fountains  for  any  hors  d'oeuvres  that  aren’t  the  usual  crab  cakes.  ”  a  weary  glance  follows  a  passing  tray  of  unattainable  food.  “  my  seafood  allergy  thanks  the  chef  who  has  left  me  with  saltines  as  my  dinner.  ”

Bridget focused on putting one foot in front of the other, her head swirling after her third drink. Fourth? She was already feeling unsteady in her heels but she was enjoying herself way too much to slow down, the first time she’d ever felt this way at one of these stuffy events. But with masks concealing everyone’s faces and the press being barred from entering, there was no reason for anyone to be anything but their unabashed selves, and the usual sense of artifice and bullshit at these parties was impressively absent. “So,” she slurred, grabbing onto the nearest person for balance and attempting to mask it by quickly looping her arm through theirs. “To the dance floor or back to the bar?” 

Paige hasn’t had a celebrity crush for years, and she definitely doesn’t have one now, but she has had some in the past – most notably, she had a bit of a crush on one of the actors she was working with. It was a mess.

              SHE WAS RIGHT, he hadn’t even introduced himself and yet, he already overshared + tried to make plans with her. maybe, he was indeed a slut — not for sex, but for companionship. “wouldn’t it be KIND OF thrilling if we spend time together without knowing each other’s names?” sure, it sounded like a plot of some lifetime horror tv movie but the concept was something cool to think about, sans the possible dangers of it. “it’s not like i’m grady caldwell’s killer or anyone else’s for that matter. are you ?” the question, however, was purely in jest. he raised his hands up in surrender before things sounded any weirder and introduced himself, “tristan wilkes, your neighborhood … well, blabbermouth? i think that’s the right description given everything i told you without knowing your name.” 

        tristan couldn’t argue with what she said, not because he agreed but simply because he didn’t know enough people who identified as whores to fact-check. “well, maybe loose lips is a double entendre after all,” he shrugged, chuckling lightly.”i was ready to be your plus-one for the weekend if you had great plans. all good things come in pairs you know — shoes, cufflinks, lungs, chopsticks, and so does the number of people needed for a not-so-boring weekend. but alas, here we are …” 

           “you’re saying he called me a WHORE because i’m TALKATIVE ?” tristan ( uncertain between whether to feel anger or amusement ) resorted to simply feigning offense through a shocked gasp and clutching his chest. “what are you doing this weekend ? any sweet loving on the horizon or are you in the same boat as me —- S.S. DOOMED TO ENNUI ?” 

“          SHOOT.          ”          a     delicate     sigh     drips     LIKE     HONEY     from     peach   -   tinted     shapes     that     part     around     smoldering     cigarette          — — — -          (          grandma     taught     you     well,     babygirl.     knit     your     shoulders     back,     smile     that     beauty     pageant     smile     you’re     so     good     at.          )          “          i     hate     to     be     a     bother,     but     d’ya     have     a     light          ??          must’a     forgot     mine.          ”

jessica laughs, “you have to be able to put in the work!” she smiles and she gives the cab driver her address. “i actually have to stop at home to check on my son. so, the cab driver’ll take you wherever you wanna go and i’ll pay.” she nods and she hums when the car stops. “here. take her wherever she wants and makes sure she gets there safe, okay? there are a lot of creeps out there tonight, henry.” she holds out her hand for the other and beams, “i’m jessica and it was a pleasure being your date for the last fifteen minutes.”

“i’m sure you will,” she muses and when the other woman says her name, she nods her head. “ah, so that’s how i know you. you… direct things.” josie hums and when another shot was set in front of her, she slides it over to paige now. she needed to go home halfway sober. “i highly doubt it. they’ve all been dickwads, so i feel sorry for the son his wife is currently pregnant with. sort of. i don’t feel sorry for his wife. plenty of people told her what she was getting herself into.” the queenpin rolls her eyes. “desperation is disgusting.” she makes a face and chews on her lower lip. “it’s not really for the best…” josie leans over, “i promise, i’d get away with it. even if these people did hear the gunshot? they all know not to say a word.” josie nods her head, and she finishes off her beer. 

dylan was minding his business, checking his phone to make sure that the meeting was still happening.  “oh, sweetheart. you need to learn to just be honest with sleaze balls.” dylan says, taking a sip for his drink and leaning back so she wasn’t too close. ‘but. i can’t help you. i’m waiting for someone. you might want to go tell him you don’t go out with…. poor…. fans or whatever he wants to call himself.” after a small pause he talks again. “also there’s security in here. go to one of them if you’re feeling unsafe. i’m not going to mess up my business because of you.”

❝ well i suppose it’s not completely ridiculous to think that in 2019, neanderthals would finally become completely extinct. but, then you remember who’s running our country and well… ❞ mocha hues roll at the passing thought, letting out the faintest snorted laugh. ❝ unfortunately i think that type of belligerent thinking is hardwired into their dna. we can only HOPE he & those like him stop procreating. though do let me know when it happens, wouldn’t wanna miss the show. ❞ her smirk upturned just slightly more, mischievous twinkle hidden in her eyes. ❝ coming right up. ❞ nova signals for a bartender, ordering martinis for them both, with whichever top shelf vodka was available. 

“honestly there was a fifty percent chance of that happening, but we have to stick together against creeps, don’t we?” jessica chuckles and shrugs her shoulders. she glances over where the guy was standing with his friends and she rolls her eyes. “here…” leaning over, she presses a kiss to the corner of the woman’s mouth and she brushed some hair from her face. “we can always just leave and find a different bar to drink at.” she hops off of her stool and holds out her hand for the other to take. “follow me, my dear.” jessica hums and puts some money down on the bar before pulling her out of the bar. swallowing thickly, she threw her arm out to catch a cab and she turned to pull the girl into a real kiss this time, knowing full well they were being watched by the guy and his friends, still. as soon as a cab pulls up in front of them, she pulls away with a deep breath and her cheeks were warm. jessica arches a brow before opening the door for the other female and slid in beside her. “ – there. we will be out of sight and out of mind,” she whispers.
