In this short posting, we will talk about a couple things about what's being a start up.

As you know, being a start-up is one of the biggest challenges there is. We are creating something new, that is responding to market needs, or to address a particular situation. Therefore, we have to justify our existence every day.

At the same time, we have to be in permanent contact with the community, our clients, and opening new opportunities in the market to further our business. Simultaneously, we are learning about ourselves. We are testing our limits, our capacity, while refining our business model, seeking for efficiencies and increase productivity.

We are sure that every entrepreneur goes through these struggles on a daily basis.

In order to move forward, the have identified that there are two key components need to achieve success: leadership and talent. Not always you can have both, a great leader and a talented team. In most cases is one or the other.

As we write this, we are currently working on a project with a new client, and as the process starts, we embark in an incredible voyage. The discovery of what the client actually does and how. Each project is unique; however, working with a start-up or a community-based organization it is amazing. We can see the potential impact that these can have and also their future role in the community. 

This is our "raison d'être", to help these businesses and organizations to be known, to grow and change the world. Being part of such journey is a privilege and makes us proud of who we are, and reminds us why we do this.

Throughout our 10 years, we've noticed certain trends among our clients, and we think that this won't change any time soon. Most companies and community organizations do not look at their technology needs in-depth. They only focus on having a website, an email account and a PC.

However, it is much more complex than that.

Creating a website or having an email account is just how the company relates to the market and the community, but what about the inner workings? Just a few start-ups', whether they are a business or an NGO, know what their technology needs is. Even though nowadays they can outsource the IT Support, rarely they have a specialist that help them from the beginning, to help them in their decision making, something that can save them thousands of dollars.

We have had the experience of advising some start-ups' since their inception and the difference is clear. They are able to focus on their business having the right tools and products to support them. Even when North America, and in particular Ontario, is working hard on the creation and support of start-ups' and support to entrepreneurship, we find that this support is limited, and many times not available.
