It's interesting to note that...
When Eurus wanted Johnâs attention, she impersonated a vivacious, confident woman who found him attractive.
When Eurus wanted Sherlockâs attention, she impersonated a slightly awkward, pretty, but vulnerable woman who needed him to save her.
What, therefore, might we deduce about Sherlockâs âtype?â
Wow, thatâs a pretty interesting observation. Meta bunnies attack, sorry, they make my hijack this postâŚ.
Notice that the description of the woman Eurus impersonated for John fits  Mary exactly to the bone. She was Johnâs type through and through. Warstan <3
Also, which other woman on the show fits that description? A certain Dominatrix. But instead of John, she finds Sherlock being attractive. And since John wants Sherlock to be happy, what does he do? He shoves Sherlock toward her. In Johnâs mind itâs a perfect match, but in reality, itâs him himself who subconsciously finding her attractive. Heâs projecting his own type onto Sherlock when he thinks of his best friend in a relationship with a woman. Thatâs why Johnâs first thought is Irene when he makes his speech in TLD, why he thinks of her first when they deduce the coffin. Sheâs the type Johnâs type. Itâs also why, Molly never crosses Johnâs mind.
For all his consideration, John has never found Molly attractive, sheâs too stammering and stuttering, too eager to please, too shy for his liking. Heâs always dismissing her importance, because subconsciously sheâs not the type of woman worth his noticing. It may sound harsh, but itâs simple rules of attractions I suppose. And, like I said, John has never been attracted to Molly that way. Well, except that one Christmas, when Molly dolled herself up projecting false confidence. Both John and Lestrade droll over her while itâs the only time Sherlock openly dislikes what he sees regarding Molly. Because the thing is, thatâs not what Sherlock actually finds attractive.
Iâm probably in the very minority of out fandom, but Iâve never seen any attraction toward Irene on Sherlockâs part. Thatâs was my very first impression when I watched ASiB, then I went online and was bombarded with all the Adl0ck stuff, even in the Sherlolly stories/posts and it made me start doubting myself. Must have missed something, I thought. It took me a while to rewatch ASiB, as I needed to brace myself for all the supposed Adl0ck there, and surprise, surprise, my first impression was only confirmed on my second and third viewing.
I will never deny that Sherlock was very intrigued by Irene and fascinated by her intelligence, brainy is the new sexy indeed, but she was intriguing only as a case. Sheâs not his type, so while it stroked his ego, her obvious attraction to him, he wasnât moved that much by it. I do think that by the end of the episode, he was seriously entertaining the thought of giving it a go with her, but then sheâs shown him her cards when they meet in the plane - she has ruthlessly played him in order to get to Mycroft for Moriarty.
I think in this moment Irene herself destroyed any future possibilities for Adl0ck. Her betrayal is like a bucket of cold water that allows Sherlock to crack her pass code. Sheâs a worthy and capable, not-to-be-underestimated adversary and having her in his corner owing him her life is too much an opportunity to pass up, so he saves her in Pakistan. Plus, no matter what, heâs a caring man, and she was vulnerable and in need of being saved.
Do I think they did the deed in Karachi? No. He denied her once again. She betrayed his trust, and trust is something he values very much. Was it hard for him to turn her down? Definitely. Like I said, she was vulnerable and in need of being saved, and that IS his type. :-)
Now what is really Sherlockâs type? A slightly awkward, pretty, vulnerable woman who needed him to save her. But thatâs only the surface. Notice, that Eurus impersonated a woman with morals stronger than family bonds, a woman strong enough to do whatâs right no matter the cost and consequences for her (she was supposedly betraying her own father). That takes courage, inner strength, and determination. And thatâs even more attractive to Sherlock than the initial description.
We all know who fits that bill. Molly. Time and time again she has proved to him her strength, resilience, her determination. Sheâs stood by him, catered to him, but never was afraid to stood up to him, even back in season 1 she has called him on his behaviour when Jim was introduced. Even back then she was quite determined in asking him out. And courageous. On top of that sheâs awkward and pretty. And yes, Sherlock has always found Molly pretty â you do not notice lipsticks, pounds gaining, breasts, etc, just because. And even if you do, you do not point it out loud. Sherlock finds Molly physically attractive, her character traits are also ones he values much (those can be also applied to John, Lestrade, Mrs. H), and sheâs the most truths worthy person he knows. And this is the final seal on the deal.
I mentioned above that trust is something Sherlock values very much if not even the highest. Irene destroyed any possibilities for any future Adl0ck by betraying Sherlockâs trust. And I think Sherlock is incapable of being intimate with someone he cannot trust. Molly on the other hand is someone who saved him, his friends, and maybe even England. Molly took all in stride and for two years harboured his secret. Molly welcomes him at Barts trusting him with her work place, welcomes him at her own home, trusting him with her private life. And Sherlock trusts her in return, with his life, with his, plans, with his vulnerability. Itâs canon he trust her more than he does even John.
Mollyâs always been his type, Molly always been the one.

Sherlocked USA take away
According to Sue Vertue and Steven Moffat - both of whom I got to talk to directly - SM at Drinks Reception on Friday, SV at VIP Meet & Greet on Sunday: There will be a Series 5, just a matter of when.
Sue said she is letting things lay a little bit, then she will start making contact with the necessary parties to see what schedules look like.
Same with Steven, he still has stories to tell and is by no means done with the Sherlockverse.
So even if we end up with an extended hiatus, at this point there is no reason to believe that Sherlock is finished.
However if you are done as a fan, because the series has failed to live to your expectations, then by all means move on. No time like the present to let go of old baggage and start anew. Take all that pent up energy and fertile imagination to new pastures. Youâll feel a lot better.
Exciting to hear!
Thatâs awesome!
Sherlock: For the last time Mary, I am not interested in having any romantic relationship!
Mary: But yo-
Sherlock: Mary it is not my forte and even if it were a 5ft something, brown haired, brown eyed, animal-loving, kind, interested in dead bodies, intelligent, insightful, beautiful, and strong woman could never love an arse, like me, wholeheartedly.
Mary: You just described Molly.
Sherlock: What? No, I didn't.
Rosie: *Nodding eagerly* Sherly did!!
Mary: Yah. You did.
Sherlock: No I didn't.
John: Yup I heard you. You did.
Lestrade: Me too.
Mycroft: Me three.
Mrs. Hudson: *coming up the stairs with biscuits* I did as well!
Mama Holmes: My hearing may be going but I concur.
Donovan: Gotta agree with your family, freak.
Anderson: *appearing from behind the kitchen wall, waving and grinning*
Ok, so this is the second part, it deals with TFP and so is less an attempt to analyse and more about impressions, because, well, TFP.
Sherlock, Molly and John â the secret life of the legend Part 2
In TFP, I feel that Moffiss veered the furthest weâve ever seen from the Sherlock Holmes of legend to bring us closer to their own unique creation and dive under the surface. And the whole of TFP was that for me - not so much a linear continuation of the story as a dive into its depths. A lot of what TFP is about is bringing to the surface stuff that was underneath, deliberately hidden, unconsciously repressed or not given a voice. Eurus is the most glaring example. She is the buried family secret, not allowed a life beyond the confines of Sherringford, a woman who exists as a secret for one of her brothers, only a memory for her parents and a repressed, forgotten memory for her other brother. We also get to see the hidden Mycroft, the child who had to become a grown up to âsaveâ his brother from the horror of Eurusâ actions and fate. To me TFP works on a symbolic level as an episode that peels off the layers or allows the secrets to rise to the surface.
And in Sherlockâs case as well, after all the growth he has experienced, toward the end of TFP we finally see the man who has âsecretlyâ been there all along - he may still be a wonderfully strange genius but at his core he is ultimately just a man with a fragile heart. And in the revelation of this âsecretâ, again, Molly plays a special part. Not only because this is the Sherlock that she, unlike anyone else, even John in some respects, has seen all along, but also because Eurus uses Molly and their by now complicated relationship to finally dethrone her brother and show him that he has truly, in terms of what he set out to be long ago, lost. In a sense, Molly was the keeper of the secret and itâs perversely fitting that she should be used to force it out. In the most simple terms, the person at the end of that phone call is not the same person that stood there at the beginning. He started the call as a worried, even compassionate but confident and controlled Sherlock Holmes, superiority intact. He ended it with his facade completely shattered, stripped to his vulnerable flesh and bone. Â
People have written beautiful metas about the ILY scene and what it meant for both Sherlock and Molly, so I wonât go into a lot of detail here. To me itâs a scene that encapsulates their entire relationship, and what it brought to the surface, what it made Sherlock face wasnât compassion or the love of friendship. He had been fairly comfortable with both of those for some time. He didnât need a ticking clock to face them. But what he never allowed himself to fully embrace was the far more shattering and dangerous and mysterious force of a different kind of love. Â
One of the reasons the ILY scene was so intense is because it brought to the surface so much of what had been repressed, unresolved and unsaid, both in terms of Mollyâs and Sherlockâs relationship and in terms of Sherlockâs nature. I am still not entirely clear about Eurusâ intentions, but whatever they were, what we see is that she rips Sherlock open to forcefully reveal that underneath the story he has been telling others and himself - not to mention the story John Watson has been telling everyone - he is just a man. The man she too caught a glimpse of and was surprised by the night she spent with him. What she was fascinated by was that he was ânicer than anyoneâ not smarter. That he thinks âsweetlyâ when he so wants to see himself and be seen by others as only thinking âsuperblyâ. In other words, itâs his hidden heart sheâs interested in not his superior mind. Many people were puzzled by Eurusâ expression at the end of the call, before the coffin thrashing. I think she was truly fascinated by the well and depth of emotion she released by her test. It had been coming to the surface for some time but it needed a little prodding to finally erupt. She looked at her brother almost like he was a foreign species, maybe even a touching one.
And we too see it clearly, literally revealed before our eyes, the camera hardly ever leaves his face â heâs a man with all the emotions and frailty and beauty the human heart is capable of. Including love. His secret is out. It has been forced to the surface against his will and itâs therefore painful and hard. It was shattering for both him and Molly. But, ultimately, the pain Mofftiss give him is borne of their love for him â through this pain he has made a decisive step on his journey from being a genius repressed adolescent to becoming a grown man. And from being the Sherlock of Watsonâs imagination to the more complex Sherlock who is Johnâs real friend, as we have come to know him. Who now, slumped on the floor, defeated hero, can finally take Johnâs offered hand, and his sincere empathy, as John helps him get up and continue his journey. This simple, beautiful act of Sherlock and John bonding finally as equals was only possible after the intense encounter with Molly, after Sherlock finally shed the last remnants of his armour of superiority, distance and control. Even in TLD, Sherlock was still somehow above John, saving him and teaching him. Now, heâs truly no longer the would-be hero who towers over John, but in his essence, like John, merely a man. Â
And itâs this man who finally, after all the growth he has experienced and the love he has let into his life, has the emotional presence and strength to face the secrets of his childhood and complete the journey put before him. Â
This was Sherlockâs journey. And after he has completed it, there is nowhere else to go - for now. Once he has finally reached this point, Mofftiss return him to Baker St., the world of the legend where there will always be two men arguing in a scruffy flat⌠The canon characters are gathered there and they go on. And then thereâs Molly. Her place remains special. Sheâs the only non-canon character in the final montage. Sheâs the last one to enter the Baker St. living room so there are no more cuts from her to other characters - sheâs not merely one in a succession of others. She walks directly toward Sherlock. But we never see them actually come together physically. We are now partly in legend territory, so we just see her smiling image blend with the image of a peaceful and then smiling Sherlock playing the violin. And then we leave 221b. The legend needs a little ambiguity.
As they were telling their main story, Mofftiss had the thread of Sherlockâs and Mollyâs relationship always running in the background, discreetly and even secretly, always hinting that there is more to this man than the others think, than we think, than even he thinks. Molly, and Sherlockâs relationship with her, is their creation. It never was the central relationship of the show, but itâs a vital element of this particular story. And that relationship, the way it grew and the aspects of Sherlock it sustained and highlighted, are among the things that make this particular Sherlock Holmes unique. Molly, by just being herself and especially through her deep and steadfast love for Sherlock, kept Sherlock, in some strange way, in touch with those parts of himself that were buried deep. Thatâs one of the reasons he always kept going back to her and never really let her go. I canât remember who it was that said that Molly has always stood for the quality of the heart and its power. And I would add that she always saw Sherlockâs heart and gave it room and shelter. And itâs ultimately Sherlockâs secret buried heart that Mofftiss were searching for and found at the end.

The Third Wheel
And there went another one.Â
Molly watched forlornly as her date ran out the door of the restaurant, nearly knocking down a couple trying to enter.Â
âWell, thatâs a shame,â Sherlock lamented insincerely as he propped his feet on the ex-dateâs chair and picked up a menu, burying his aristocratic nose inside it. âShall we order?â
Fury like nothing else Molly had ever known welled up inside her. Without a second thought, she picked up her nearly full wine glass and tossed the drink in his smug face.
As he sputtered and wiped his face, she stormed out of the restaurant, ignoring the shocked faces of their other patrons. She rushed down the street as fast as she could, but knew that Sherlock would not be far behind.
She hurried across the intersection just as the indicator turned and hoped she had bought enough time to make it to the tube station before he caught up.
âHonestly, Molly Hooper, that was rather childish.â
Damn his long legs.
âLeave me alone, Sherlock,â she snapped. âThere was nothing wrong with him and you know it. You always do this, you always show up just when things are going well, and make it all go to pot.â
Sherlock scoffed, dabbing the remainder of the wine from his face and chucking the handkerchief in a bin as they passed it. âConsidering you are a friend and colleague of mine, I would be most⌠concerned if something were to happen to you because you chose a poor suitor. I need to ascertain that these men would be worthy of youâŚâ He cleared his throat. âYour time, that is.â
Molly came to a dead stop and Sherlock doubled back when he realised she was no longer beside him. âListen up, you overbearing, controlling git!âÂ
His eyes went wide and he took a step back as she crowded him and jabbed her finger into the center of his chest. âYou donât get to decide who I date. If I want to go out and date, kiss, or bloody shag the next man that comes along, I bloody well will!â
A passing gentleman slowed down at hearing their argument and his brows rose in surprise. Molly and Sherlock turned to him and he looked at Molly with a leering smile
âBugger off!â They shouted in unison.
The manâs smile dropped and he scurried off in disappointment.Â
âAnd furthermore,â Molly rounded on him once more, her finger finding its place painfully deep in his chest. âI have had enough of your overbearing, third wheeling, monstrous antics on my dates! I donât how youâre finding out when or where or with whom they are, but if you show up one more time, Iâll-mmpff!â
Her righteous tirade was cut short when, unable to get a word in edgewise, aggravated and having lost the one smidgen of patience heâd managed to maintain for the last few months, Sherlock grabbed her face and covered her mouth with his. Mollyâs eyes went wide in shock and her arms windmilled. His kiss was half frustration, half passion and she struggled to pry his hands off her.
But then, oh but then, his passion took over completely. The kiss turned from something awkward and hard to tender and loving and her fury melted away. She closed her eyes and sunk into the kiss until her knees buckled. Her arms wound around his neck and she dragged her fingers through the curls she had dreamed of for so long. By the time he pulled away to let them breathe, the only thing holding her up was his arms, secure around her waist.Â
Breathing heavily, Sherlock looked down at her and the depth of emotion in his eyes stole what little breath she had left. 'Apologies, but you just werenât taking a hint.'Â
She swallowed and tried to focus on her thoughts and not the phantom feeling of his lips, the way his arms wrapped around her perfectly and protectively.
'You werenât exactly being overt, Sherlock,â she managed to say.Â
'I ran off seven men. I should think my intentions were obvious.'Â
Molly rolled her eyes fondly. 'Next time, try saying 'Molly, I do believe I like with you. Would you care to have dinner with me?â She dropped her voice to mimic his deep, posh baritone.
'Next time?!â He asked incredulously. 'There wonât be a next ti-mmpff!'Â
Molly smiled against his lips, happy to shut him up the same way he did her. Something told her she would be doing that quite a bit in years to come.Â
She relished the look of dazed adoration on his face as she pulled back. âSo,â she drew out the word. âIs there something you wanted to ask me?â
Smiling almost secretively, he asked, finally, 'Molly Hooper, I am utterly, wholly and completely in love with you. Would you do me the honor of having dinner with me, today and every day for the rest of our lives?â
Her eyes widened and her lips parted in surprise. She searched his face for any sign of deception, but could find none. Her heart filled to overflowing and she nodded, her voice thick with emotion. âYes, I would like that. I would like that very much.â
âI know just the place, then.â He grinned and stepped away. She felt the empty loss of his embrace, but then he held out his hand.Â
She tucked her small hand in his large one. âOh yeah? And where might that be?â
He tugged her close to his side and winked. â221B Baker Street.âÂ
I think thereâs an interesting parallel between the end of TSiB and TRF.
I do think thereâs a romantic connection between Sherlock and Iren.e in TSiB. She absolutely has feelings for him, and I think Sherlock has feelings for her as well. But in the end, heâs disappointed to discover sheâs used him to decipher the email about âBond Air.â She betrayed him, even though sheâs in love with him. How could he trust her again after that? Love isnât truly possible without trust.
In contrast, in TRF, we have Molly letting Sherlock know sheâs noticed something is wrong and she wants to help him. She knows that he is not in love with her (at least, thatâs what she thinks!) and sheâs not doing this to win him over or because she expects anything in returnâbut simply because she loves him. Sherlock asks her flat out at the end of the episode, âIf I wasnât everything that you think I am â everything that I think I am â would you still want to help me?â Her answer is yes. Molly is the one who matters the mostâthe one he can trust with his deepest secret, no matter what.
