Let's see.. The love and infatuation of most people are two things that honestly, piss me off. They're too difficult for a lot of people handle, and can lead to people making huge mistakes.

There isn't really an appropriate age to understand your feelings the best, it's all in the state of mind you're in. For example, I'm pretty young but I believe that I have a good comprehension of my feelings, though I can get too emotional and get wrapped up in my feelings, losing sight of what I should do versus what I want to do, but a lot of people much older than I am suffer from that too.

Love, to me, is a deep attachment to a person. An attachment that hurts when you're away from that person, and makes you overly conscious of what they do and say and it makes you feel good when you're around them. It's so similar to infatuation, it's crazy, but love doesn't fade as easily. In my opinion, anyway.
