Since I drew Dorian after his (unused) execution, I decided that I shall share it, and then give some explanations on it!! TW: Mentions of abuse, hanging, mockery and degradation, many existentialist ideas.
Unused Execution for Dorian Zvezdov, The Ultimate Cybercrime Detective: Nauseating☆Betrayal
Dorian would be put in a quiet room, akin to his childhood one that he shared with his parents. The door is closed and an argument is heard from the other side. He is working on his laptop, where it suddenly gets hacked, all sorts of gore and disgusting material showing in numerous pop ups. Before he can fix it, Monokumas dressed as his parents come in the room, so in fear Dorian jumps out the window. There he walks down a street, numerous Monokuma civilians berate him and throw sharp and heavy objects at him, calling him names and insulting him. At the end of the road, he sees a chestnut tree with a noose hung on it and a chair beneath it. He walks up to it and puts the noose around his neck, contemplating on whether he should “practice his last existentialist freedom”, but before he could decide, Monokuma pushes the chair beneath him, Dorian dying from the hanging with his glasses falling off his face. He isn’t wearing his tie, as he gave it to Byakuya, “a little trinket so you can remember me” as he said.
Explanations and references:
His execution name is a parallel to Byakuya’s execution name, having a book reference in it: Nausea by Jean-Paul Sartre. The book is picked because Dorian holds existentialist and absurdist philosophies, referencing them constantly throughout the game. They make him very detached from the killing game by giving him one comfort: He is always free, as long as he has the freedom to take his own life. A reference to the book is also the chestnut tree, which appears in it!!
His execution starts where his ultimate talent started flourishing, at home. He was a loner, at home and at school, emotionally and physically abused by his mother, and neglected by both parents, further isolating him. He found comfort in the internet, which with finding grotesque materials, developed a sense of justice to help get rid of it and the victims involved in it. By being chased out by his parents, he fails at fixing the pop ups, and therefore, fails at his Ultimate.
The berating and degradation from the Monokumas is also linked to his abuse, but also to his innate need to help and satisfy others. He failed, not only at what he does, but failed to keep his classmates safe, to bring them to justice. He failed at being a “tool” for their safety, and failed at his dream to someday regain the control that was taken from him.
The noose is his last chance at control, at freedom. He hesitates for a moment, but before he could decide what to do, Monokuma takes the decision for him, ridding him of his last freedom… the only thing that gave him comfort and control.
It’s not very grotesque or Ultimate themed, but I thought it fit well. I hope you like it :D
