Kit Purrson: NOT canon - It’s canon that Kent owns a cat, but the name Kit Purrson is fanon. Sometime in 2015, Ngozi allegedly talked with fans on Twitter about how Kent would own a cat named after himself and coined the name Kent “Parse Jr” Purrson. This evolved into the fanon name Kit Purrson. However, all those tweets were deleted, as seen by the broken hyperlinks in this masterpost. Potentially all that survived is two screenshotted tweets where Kent refers to his cat as Purrs. I can only guess that Ngozi didn’t want to canonize what was really just joking around and deleted the tweets, although she would rework and reintroduce the idea later on. The cat’s canon name, as revealed by Ngozi in Notes on Check Please: Year Three Finale (posted Jan 6, 2018), is Purrs Jr as a play on Parse Jr. His cat is his phone wallpaper.

Holster’s knee injury: NOT canon - We learned in 2013 that he played in the USHL in Waterloo (implied to be the Waterloo Black Hawks based in Waterloo, Iowa). However, it’s never stated why Holster’s hockey career ended and why he chose Samwell over the NHL or AHL.

Tater is younger than Jack: CANON - In Notes on Year 3, Comic 3 (posted April 19, 2016), Ngozi tells the story of how Alexei Mashkov got the nickname “Tater” from Marty in “probably, circa 2010.″ It sounds like Ngozi wasn’t 100% decided on how old Tater is, but if he was a rookie in 2010 and was drafted into the NHL at age 18, then he’s one year younger than Jack.

Chowder is a legacy student: CANON - The Jan 22, 2015 tweet linked by the wiki as the source for this information is now privated by Ngozi, but page 191 of the Year Two book (which I own) confirms that both of Chowder’s parents attended Samwell.

Jeff “Swoops” Troy: NOT canon - Jeff and Troy were never said to be the same person, and Swoops is entirely fanon. On Jun 17, 2015, Ngozi subtitled a drawing of Kent and a new character at a basketball game with “#LAClippers #thislife #thrillin #sweetseats #swoops #lvaces”. People misinterpreted “swoops” as the new character’s hockey nickname, but it’s just slang for basketball. In a Jan 22, 2017 livestream, Ngozi reportedly was completely confused who “Swoops” is and confirmed that he’s Troy. The name Troy originates from Year 3, Comic 8 (posted Sep 22, 2016) where a jersey with the last name Troy appears on page 6. He may have also appeared in this Kickstarter commission from Jul 14, 2015. In Year 3, Comic 26 (posted Jan 6, 2018), Troy talks with Carl, Kent’s homophobic teammate, and “pointed out that Carl is full of it.” It’s unclear if Troy says “Come on, Carl…” or laughs along with him, but in Notes on Check Please: Year Three Finale, Ngozi describes Troy as one of Kent’s two best friends on his team. Jeff originates from a Mar 29, 2015 drawing of Kent where a teammate named Jeff chirps him. It’s possible that Jeff is Troy’s first name, but it’s not canon.

Holster is Jewish: CANON - On Jan 1, 2018, Ngozi posted a drawing of Holster as a kid with both a menorah and a Christmas tree in the background, so he’s presumably from an interfaith family.

Kent found Jack after he overdosed: NOT canon - Maybe it did happen that way, but the overdose and the draft (which might not have even happened on the same day or the night before like many assumed) were never shown, so we don’t know.

Jack and Kent played for Rimouski in the QMJHL: SEMI-CANON - The blue jerseys that Jack and Kent wear in juniors look incredibly similar to Rimouski jerseys IRL, so it’s sort of implied that they played for Rimouski. However, the name Rimouski appears nowhere in the comic, and Ngozi has avoided using the names of any real NHL hockey teams. But on Dec 15, 2013 she did specifically say that Jack played in the QMJHL.
