if I were jensen ackles, even if i truly and wholeheartedly did not think destiel was a good ship and i had never intentionally played into it even once. i think i would give it lip service whenever possible. i would be like ‘yep I did that. dean is hella gay for cas. all the purposeful looks? that was me. i made dean stare at cas like that all the time. i played him that way ON PURPOSE from the beginning.’ and not because i wanted to appease the fans or because i wanted them to cheer me on. no. i would do that because if the general consensus was that dean was gay for cas as an intentional acting choice on my part, then everyone would praise me as a brilliant actor with perfectly natural chemistry instead of coming to the conclusion that yes, i, hypothetical jensen ackles, was not in fact making jenius jacting joices but had instead simply been staring at my coworker’s lips for twelve years. because that’s exactly what happened, assuming destiel was actually unintentional.

in spite of what the heterosexual tv people seem to be overwhelmingly fixated on, the whole “my queer love (usually for my hetero best friend) is a dirty little secret that can never be returned, and maybe i’ll come out and they’ll accept me while making clear they’re sooo straight and will be ignoring the elephant crush in the room” is really not that groundbreaking

i just find it very convenient how for so long they held the line against canonical queerness only to finally concede in the 2020’s and redraw the boundary line at “pining queer character whose unrequited love will never be returned until they get unnamed blurry same sex spouse at some nebulous point in the future.” that these people will pat themselves on the back as the champions of queers in media while always including queer characters but balking at actually showing queer romantic relationships.

I’m sorry but you can’t just officially confirm one half of destiel and then make it seem like its ambiguous for the other,,, dean had a way bigger list of gay crimes than cas like they were BOTH insane about each other and thats how the ship came to be what it is. I actually thought dean was more obvious than cas was. You can’t backtrack on only one of them and be like aha he was gay the whole time! And not have me assume the same for the other, like this confession makes you look back at the relationship in its entirety
