When the masks cry -reflection-

As of July 4th 2018, the Internet as we know it might be dead for good. 

The European Parliament is passing a new Copyright Directive.  Article 13 #CensorshipMachine will impose widespread censorship of all the content we share online. Art, fanfiction, parodies, remixes, mashups, memes, etc.. Anything that you do not hold the rights over will be taken down. 

Article 13 would force all online platforms to police and prevent the uploading of copyrighted content, or make people seek the correct licenses to post that content. Internet platforms hosting large amounts of user-uploaded content must monitor user behaviour and filter their contributions to identify and prevent copyright infringement. 

Such filters will be mandatory for platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit and Instagram, but also much smaller websites. 

For the longest time, many English-speaking fans has thought of Kino’s original name as being the same as Sakura’s, the lovely tour guide from “A Kind Land” story, because they were both named after a flower and their names are easily twisted into childish insults. However when I read the original novels, The evidence I found suggest otherwise.

The novel described the flower that Kino was named after as “a type of bright red flower, found just beyond the borders of this country. These flowers stain the land with a bright red color, far across to the horizon” (Kino no Tabi light novel Volume 6, Epilogue “A Pledge・a" —a Kitchen Knife・a—). In the novel the shape of the flower is not very clear in the official illustrations, which is why Kino’s original name remains ambiguous.

Meanwhile, Sakura described her name as: “It’s the name of a flower that blooms in spring. It’s a pretty flower with a pink color”  (Kino no Tabi light novel Volume 2, Chapter 8 “A Kind Land" —Tomorrow Never Comes—). Her name was twisted into “Nekura” (gloomy) or “Okura” (slow) to be made fun of by other children. In real life sakura is the cherry blossoms that bloom on trees, unlike Kino’s flower which bloom on prairie field. 

There is an official art of Sakura in which she is standing in the wind with cherry blossom petals fluttering around. The 2017 anime also put a reference to sakura flowers in the background in “A Kind Land” episode. 

The misconception of both characters’ name being the same might originate from the 2003 anime in which they used the same flower to make parallels between young Kino and Sakura.

While the 2003 anime has a very good direction style in making parallels between the “Land of Adults” and “A Kind Land” episodes, the flower parallel was unfortunately incorrect. Most Japanese fans don’t seem to have the same misconception, as they have read the novels and referred to young Kino as “XXXXX”, exactly like how Kino’s original name is referred to in the novels.

Interestingly, the 2017 anime suggests a possible flower that could be Kino’s original name:

The red flower here is named Prairie Lily, or Western Red Lily, a red flower that bloom on vast frairie field, just like Kino’s original name.

Another interesting fact is that the English dub name of Sakura in 2003 anime is Lily. This name is rhyme with “Silly” and “Willy Nilly” as a childish insult.

Nevermind at the bottom of the new releases page it says it’s being delayed. We’ll probably find out if its coming out in December today.

“And to the readers of my novels, I have to apologize… the joint pain in my fingers, elbows, shoulders, lap, ankles, etc was getting really bad, so I went to the hospital and it turns out that my CRP levels were 9.5 over what they should’ve been. The tests revealed some collagen disease as well, so I had to have some more tests… Between the tests and the treatment piling up, all of my plans have delayed a little. I’m really very sorry…

Everything other than my joints is fine, so my fingers work well enough for typing little messages on twitter like this (but after a few hours of typing they start to hurt and stop working), so I’ve been needing lots of breaks. I finished the manuscript for the manga a few months back, so I hope you can look forward to that…! I really am sorry that I’m making you wait…

At least the tests revealed that it doesn’t seem to be polymylositis, but I don’t want work to provoke the arthritis in my fingers, so I’d like to take my time with work for a while…! Please let them develop a system to type with brain waves instead of fingers soon! Which is all to say that the release date will be delayed and I’m very sorry…!

Currently renaming the chapter titles on the wiki, already renamed Bilt’s page. Probably won’t rename the other character pages until I share the updates on the Wiki’s Twitter, which I think I’ll wait to do after I take a shower since while it’s 11:23 AM here, it’s only 6:23 AM EST. 

The chapter titles…Well, instead of just using the bolded word, Yen Press lists the chapters like this on the Kindle version (the bolded words are capitalized in the sidebar since sidebar words can’t be bolded, I guess):

While it might be a bit early to hope for the next game in the series, Ace Attorney will be making an appearance at this year’s TGS nonetheless!

Capcom has announced that there will be an Ace Attorney Special Court show on September 23rd from 14:50 to 15:35 JST (1:50 AM Eastern/5:50 AM UTC).  Series producer Motohide Eshiro and Apollo’s VA KENN will be there to promote the upcoming release of Apollo Justice 3DS, share new info about the series, and play a new special court skit for visitors.  There will also be a brief chat with the studio from 15:35 to 15:50.

The show will be livestreamed, and per usual, we’ll be restreaming/hosting a live chat on Cytube! However, Capcom probably won’t stream the special court skit (so that in-person attendees to the panel have something to themselves.) 

Coming out in November, title will be The Buzz Messengers. Someone wanna clue me in what band that’s from?

If you see an artist you were going to commission whos underpricing their art, tip them! seriously!

Pay them what you believe they should be charging, and tell them that it’s what their art is worth.

It’ll be a huge confidence boost, as a large part of the problem is they can’t conceive that people would want to pay more for their art.

I understand not wanting to encourage underpricing, but ignoring them is not the answer. all that does is discourage them and they’re likely to lower their prices further, which worsens the problem.

Prove to them that their art is worth more than they think, don’t ignore them.
