Louis Leaky chose her because he wanted someone with an eagerness to learn, a free spirit, and an open mind, who hadn’t gone through the “academic process” of being told what to believe and what’s possible and not by professors and peers. He chose someone with no formal education or credibility and she went on to change the way we think about all non-human apes, and revolutionized anthropology and primatology.
