Dark mirrors, a @whedonsecretsanta for @crookeddeer
Happy holidays, @crookeddeer !!! Hereâs your Whedon Secret Santa, sorry for the delay!
Amy had loved her the moment she had seen her.
Well, not really, because she had seen her before, hanging around in the library with Buffy and Mr. Giles, and she had heard Willow complain about her, the new Slayer in town who had so much more in common with Buffy than Willow did. Amy hadnât paid her more attention than that at the time.
Not until she had been turned back into a human, and Faith had given her a blanket while Amy cowered, naked and confused, in front of the Mayor, a mystical looking warlock and a bunch of vamps.
âThereâs nothing to fearâ the Mayor had said.
âWe rescued youâ Faith had explained, before taking her to her really cool apartment to recover.
Amy had understood her new position very quick- the Mayor needed more people who could do magic, and he needed people who knew Willow and Mr. Giles, who could still get close to them and anticipate their movements.
It was difficult to say no, not just because they were scary, but because Amy looked at Faith and she could see it- she could see what she would get in return. It wasnât just power. Faith radiated something else. It was power, but also energy, the ability to let go of all the restrictions and just be able to develop, to grow, to be⌠more.
Faith was distant at first, tried to give her orders as well, but Amy didnât play her game. A few discrete spells and Faith was spewing her childhood traumas like a fountain, and they bonded over evil mothers and absent fathers who one day promised to be there and were gone the next.
âYou know, right?â Amy had asked a few weeks before Graduation. âHow good we could be? Canât you imagine? Your strength and my magic⌠We could go anywhere, be anything.â
âAfter Graduationâ Faith had said.
They werenât exactly discrete. Faith loved dancing, going to the Bronze and kissing her on the dancefloor, driving the college boys around them crazy. It didnât take long for Buffy and the rest to find out.
âThey know youâll be working togetherâ the Mayor had said, after giving them a lecture on proper public behaviour. âYou two will need to come up with a stunning attack.â
Faith spent more time fucking her than preparing an attack plan, claiming that she had an infallible idea to throw Buffy off. It was a surprise for Amy when Buffy and Willow blew the door to their apartment open.
She had known, deep down, that they were never gonna win. That certainty had been hidden really deep, right along the memories of her sober mother and her one nice foster family, even when she had assured the Mayor that she wouldnât fail him, even when she had told Amy that they would be okay.
And as she walked shakily in the stolen clothes, her muscles weak after so many months in a freaking comma, she knew exactly what to do.
It didnât take her long- she found Amy as soon as she broke into Buffy and Willowâs dorm room. There was no doubt on the identity of the rat they were keeping in a cage by Willowâs desk. Faith took the whole thing- her stomach turned at the thought of Amy caged like that, but she didnât want her to escape either.
All she had to do was find someone who knew magic, get her turned back into human.
And then, together, they would be unstoppable.
Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! Itâs not a ship I had considered before, but omg, the potential! I am converted now.
