Life is simple. Choose to see it. Focus on one thing at a time. Prioritize. Take action. Notice your progress. Repeat. Life is simple.  Â
Don’t settle. You’re too important and so are your dreams.
A person may crave or have an appetite for something, yet resist the craving with willpower. A correctly operating soul requires the highest part, reason, to control the lowest part, appetite, with assistance from the will

Resist fear. Assist love.
Begin. Again.
I turned 38 last month…and, newly single (again) and having recently left my job, I was feeling an itch for new horizons, an adventure, a challenge. After lots of reflecting, my mind kept coming back to the idea of moving to sunny California…almost as if it was calling to me. I visited two months back – primarily to test it out and see if I could really live here. The answer was clear… “Yes.” life seemed to say to me, “Yes, you can do this.”
So I did. I moved to SoCal. Today is day four here and, so far, I couldn’t be happier. I left the rainy winter of the Pacific Northwest in a U-Haul truck packed full of everything I own. I drove south on I-5 for 1,300+ miles to get here with a couple of stops along the way. I feel like just getting here is a big accomplishment, and I’m pleased that I took the leap and made it happen. But now the real work begins…
I’m here, now what? Â
Admittedly, my “plan” for SoCal was more of a rough sketch than anything well thought out and researched. I’m working on finding a place to open a business down here, but there are many steps I’d need to take to make that happen. I know only a handful of people here (literally just four people…and they are more acquaintances than anything, although they’ve each been very helpful). I have visited the city several times, but really am exploring it anew as a resident. There is so much yet to be figured out. Â
My life feels shiny and new, which is both wonderful/exciting/full of adventure, and also full of challenges. I will need to learn, adapt, meet people and make connections, stretch myself, open my mind, stay motivated, have discipline. My approach has typically been distinctly positive, seeing things as opportunities, taking a “can do” attitude – one of my strengths is “figuring it out.” I’m also not immune to the fear factor, bouts of self-doubt, and discouragement. These feelings are uncomfortable for me but natural and normal. I believe that living courageously and making big exciting changes should feel a little scary.
Feel fear, do it anyway.Â
Over the past year, I’ve really taken up the challenge to be grateful and seek out inspiration, motivation, encouragement around me. It has been such a positive practice in my life. Inspiration comes to me in many forms: written quotes, song lyrics, podcasts, nature, greeting cards, fine art, street art, physical fitness and exercise, pets, wise words from family/friends/mentors. Focusing attention on gratitude and inspiration is my secret weapon against fear and doubt…allowing me to acknowledge these feelings, but keep them at bay in my decision making. I’ve amassed a lot of inspiration in this past year…but where can I keep it all so that I can pull it up when I need it, or when I want to share something with a friend who i think could use it?Â
I’ll Tumbl 4 Ya…
This Tumblr has been a long time coming – I’ve thought about starting something for years. The purpose of my blog is to reflect on my commitment to living my values, creating a good life, and really honor this chance I’ve been given to begin again. I hope that others might find some usefulness in what I share here as well. Â
Be great today! MJ
