Do we have a passion for ignorance?
Here are my impressions about the second topic that I've chosen in Bridging the Gaps. Today I will talk about the passion for ignorance.
I was interested in that discussion because we think that ignorance is always a bad thing and Professor Salecl explained why is not.
According to Renata Salecl, Ignorance could be passive or active, conscious or unconscious. I've learnt that the government and some companies keeping people in dark on purpose, making society ignorant. She also explained about the knowledge society, we can learn and write and publish articles but not all can read other articles because they have access restricted for subscribers.
W also can understand how people are manipulated to have access to knowledge, and even though we have access to the internet to search for information, we still are manipulated, because the algorithms show us the paid information at first.
Some people prefer to choose ignorance for their own benefit, rich people can think ecological and do recycle, but they can think that big changes can stop progress.
Nowadays knowledge has a big value, with the Internet whatever influencers say sometimes is equal to or more valid than what scientist says. Making it easy to diffuse a lot of doubt information.
Peharps, as I said in the beginning of this post, I choose this topic because, Renata Salecl says that people thinks ignorance in a negative way, but she also said that there are moments that ignorance is really important for our lives, such as when a doctor needs to give a result of desease to a patient.
Finally, I understood that people also use the power of ignorance to have access to apps and websites, they choose to give up from their data, while the companies collect information about them.
Who is Renata Salecl?
