I feel like teen Tom is one of those guys who is super confident but super insecure at the same time.
He thinks heβs the shit with his edgy clothes, his bass, his skateboard. He purposely acts in a way that makes him stand out, but really itβs just him trying to escape from his own self-hatred.
Tom will act overly confident around you. Heβll gloat about his bass, show off his taste and knowledge of music, do cool tricks on his skateboard to impress you. When you compliment him, he acts all nonchalant, shrugging his shoulders and mumbling a βitβs nothing.β He tries so hard to mask the fact that your compliment is making his head spin, and heβs bad at it. His face is beet red and he canβt even look at you. Itβs obvious how much he likes you. But donβt tell him you know, itβll ruin his cool guy act.
Teen Tom is also really stupid when it comes to relationships and feelings and all that. Heβll ask you out to the movies, to get lunch, and wonβt tell you he means it in a date way.
Most of his knowledge of romance comes from the movies he watches and the sad British rock (The Smiths) he listens to. Heβll write about you in his diary and write sappy love songs about you. He thinks itβs pure poetry and art. Edd, who has looked through all his notebooks because heβs a nosey bastard, thinks Tom is pathetic.
In the end, it probably ends up being either Edd or Tord who tells you how Tom feels you. Or, you tell him you know how he feels. He gets so embarrassed, because now he has to own up to the fact that heβs not a tortured artist whoβs misunderstood by his muse, and heβs not a cool confident guy, heβs just another pathetic teenage dirtbag who has the emotional maturity of a spoon.
