just in case anyone should ever be curious pull up the english wikipedia article for tfmitm and read through the "influences, references & adaptations" section
that thing lead me down multiple rabbit holes and every new discovery had me squealing in excitement and/or just straight up baffled
"so i am working here at amalfi, on the scenario of that play i sketched before Cavor came walking into my world, and am trying to piece my life together as it was before i ever saw him."
...look me straight into my eyes and tell me that doesnt sound like someone recovering from a bad break up. TELL ME!!
why give your characters clear cut backstories when you can just extremely vaguely and briefly hint at a singular event in their lives once then never mention it again?
bro i found out that theres apparently this rpg tabletop game fashioned after victorian scifi featuring both Cavor and Bedford and i have two points to make;
nr 1: they are given the first names Herbert (Cavor) and George (Bedford) which i absolutely adore cause yk herbert george wells
and nr 2: I HOPE THEY FIND EACH OTHER IN THAT ALTERNATE REALITY AND GET ALONG JUST FINE TIL THE END AND NEITHER DIES IN OUTER SPACE AND NEITHER REGRETS THEIR DECISIONS AND NEITHER REGRETS MEETING THE OTHER
but honestly id be 100% on board for a hyper angsty scientist x space colony general au

"to the moon and back" is only a sweet way to express ones love until you apply it to Bedford and Cavor
just pointing out that h g wells could literally just have had Cavor say "goodbye" or "farewell" but instead choose "au revoir" which translates to fucking "until we meet again"
haha isnt that silly?! (starts sobbing violently)
night. because if it was a good night it would end with Bedford giving Cavor a forehead kiss
just saw the german wikipedia article for The First Men in the Moon describe my bbys as barely even friends... because they "even fight"... tbh had the spontaneous impulse to throw something out the window
anyways what im trying to say is that i now have a wikipedia account in use
yes you may congratulate me, cavernous void that is my tumblr, ive saved the education of millions of german speakers
ive officially decided that Bedford is to be associated with a rich darkish blue colour and Cavor is a bright warm orange
idk i just want that detail floating around in the void

i generally believe that h g wells is really good at letting characters transition into new parts of their arcs very naturally, but the uno reverse card he pulls in this book is just something i can always appreciate especially
Cavor turning into the reasonable and practical one out of the duo once theyre in the new environment of the moon just feels oddly sensible and serves the themes and character allegories just sooooo well
plus the whole niche knowledge actually serving a purpose is just really sweet to me
do you want to know about a song that just screams (early canon) Bedford? no? idc its "dont fuck with my money" by mystery skulls
i like how i made this silly little blog where i go to post silly little non serious things and then there is my fucking username. and my pfp.
reminds me that the world is a cruel place by our own making
i dont have wifi right now and im salty that i cant post because i have to save my data volume (is that a word?? idk and idc english isnt my first language)
anyways do you ever think about how Bedford regrets the way he talked to Cavor before they parted ways?
how could anyone read about Cavor lecturing and dusting off Bedford with him just taking it and not immediately think "old married couple"? HOW?

just pointing out that Bedford and Cavor are unusually touchy with each other even for h g wells standards
anyone whos read the book knows im not even exaggerating here they do that shit so casually all the time and for no reason
+ the how often their eyes meeting is pointed out
you cannot tell me that the good omens-ofmd-wwdits-fandom wouldnt eat up a first men in the moon mini series
it fits literally all the crossover plot points: queer duo thats very different on the surface, one wholesome and underestimated the other surface level confident with a wild past, silly setup, comedy with genuinely heartfelt moments, mutual pining, divorce arc/tragic ending that tears the duo away from each other etc etc
an adaptation of the book would literally be the scifi equivalent of these shows (not equivalent i know they arent the same but you know what i mean)
